Halloween Memories

I was going to post this tomorrow on Halloween, but I'm going to the Rally for Sanity today so I'll be posting about that instead.

When I saw my granddaughter, KC's costume for Halloween, I told her she was a cute fairy. Nope. She's a dragonfly with a wand, I was informed. Here she is trick-or-treating at Old Orchard Mall in Illinois.


Halloween is here with a lot of Illinois memories.


In 1980, Tif was a witch. I dressed Jon as a 50 lb. bag of rice. I guess you have to be from Hawaii to understand this joke.


In 1981, Tif was a witch. Since nobody could figure out what Jon was the year before, I turned him into a ghost instead with some old sheets. I'm not sure people could quite figure that one out either.



In 1982, Tif was a witch. Success! Everybody knew that Jon was a cowboy!

I always had the hardest time picking a costume for Halloween. More often than not, I was a witch... a nice witch, a pink haired witch, a warty witch, a plain ol' witch.

Other teachers were a lot more creative than I was.

The kids took Halloween very seriously but I always reminded them to brush their teeth and not eat too much of their candies at one time. I wonder just how many heeded my warnings.

I hope the four bags of candy I bought for tomorrow is enough. How many bags did you buy?

Halloween Long Ago

Almost 20 years ago, this was my class at Halloween in Illinois. I wonder where those kids are...

I'm also wondering where those present day Trick or Treaters are. A few years ago I'd have to buy 8 or 9 bags of candy. I bought 6 bags this year but I'm not seeing any kids. It's 6:30 PM. My mother says Trick or Treaters in Hawaii come after 6:00 here in Hawaii.

In Illinois they came after school. We would have fun tallying how many children we'd get coming to our house. My daughter tells me that even with Indian Summer weather, there were very few children there. I hope I don't end up with 6 bags of candy. Sheesh!

Where are they? Did you get a lot of Trick or Treaters?

Oh nuts! I have to take it all back. The kids just came later here in Hawaii. We had about 50 kids. I'm glad they're still enjoying the fun evening. Hmmmm... I still have 2 BIG bags left though...

And I shouldn't have but I did have a Baby Ruth. :-)
