We went to Kamakura today to see the Daibutsu (Great Buddha) shrine. The Daibutsu was completed in 1252 and is Japan's 2nd largest Buddha. Cast in bronze, it weighs over 850 tons.
Dennis found this beautiful dead butterfly in the bathroom and brought it out for us to all admire.
We loved seeing the different flowers in the Kamakura area.
This is called a Higanbana in Japanese but I don't know what the English name is.
We then walked to the Hasedera Kannon to see the mizugo jizo. This is a sacred area to pray for babies who died young or through miscarriage.
I bought a candle to pray for my daughter's miscarried baby and though I have been fine with it these past 2 years, lighting that candle brought tears to my eyes.
We had soba noodles for lunch. Soba is made of buckwheat noodles.
Hasedera is a beautiful area.
These stone sculptures represent the many babies and young children who have been lost to us.
