Sky Watch Friday: Kualoa Beach Park

This photo was taken in August of last year when Tiffany and KC were visiting. We took a trip to Kualoa Beach Park and watched the power of the waves. KC was terrified of the sand. Every time we put her down to walk on the sand, she screamed. Being a Chicago city baby, she was only used to the firm support of a concrete sidewalk.

Sky Watch Friday: The First Day of 2009

It must be the firecracker pollutants in the air but the sunrise that greeted the first morning of the new year was quite colorful. My husband took the photo. I was still asleep since the fireworks kept me up pretty late.

Sky Watch Friday: Christmas in Hawaii

It's our first Christmas in Hawaii after 35 years of celebrating the holidays with our children and neighbors in Illinois. It's certainly different.

We just talked to our daughter with Skype and webcam and could see the snow piling up in the backyard in the midwest. As you can see my husband is going jogging and doesn't need his snowboots. It's not snowing but it was drizzling a tiny bit. It's different.

Sky Watch Friday: Sunrise Over the Koolaus

Here's a photo of sunrise over the Koolau mountain range. I actually took it this summer right out our bedroom window. Right now, it's a very wintry cloudy and rainy.

Sky Watch Friday: Gutterman

He calls himself James the Gutterman and he is as nice as can be. We get ferocious winds that bombard our house causing the gutters to rattle like a machine gun. The gutters that James installed a couple of years ago came loose again. He came over and climbed right up to the top of the house under very blue skies and reinforced the whole thing. I know the neighbors are thrilled.

Sky Watch Friday: Miyajima, Japan

Here's another incredible Miyajima, Japan photo. This time, it was taken by my brother. I was, still groggy and not awake enough to get myself downstairs to walk to the pier to take the photos. That's OK. Dennis and Art took enough to make up for what I never got around to doing myself. The funny thing is, the following morning I woke early to make sure I got a great sunrise shot, too, but there were no clouds in the sky. In fact, a whole bunch of other photographers with extremely high powered cameras with tripods were out there but sigh... we were not so lucky.

Sky Watch Friday: Rice

I took rice for granted until our trip to Japan last month. We took this photo in Hiroshima where my husband's relatives actually grew their own rice. It's a LOT of hard work to give you that cup of rice.

Dellgirl asked how I was able to get that angle for the rice. The rice was actually planted on a hill. I just added this extra photo to show what I mean.

Sky Watch Friday: Tokyo

While in Japan last month my uncle took us to the 52nd floor observation deck of Roppongi Hills Mori Tower (Tokyo City View) to see Tokyo spread out below us. We watched the sun go down but was startled suddenly to see three suns. I guess we must have been passing a corner of the glass windows which refracted the sunlight giving us this illusion.

Sky Watch Friday: Miyajima, Japan

(I just added the extra photo with the boat because Art said this was his favorite. I had chosen the more orange photo.)

This was taken on October 12th when we were in Miyajima, Japan. While I was getting ready in the hotel, Art went outside to see a spectacular sunrise. He must have taken nearly a hundred shots as the sky showed so many different hues of her early morning personality.

Unfortunately, that night I thought I had uploaded all his shots BUT something went terribly wrong. He erased his photo card thinking my uploading had been successful. When we discovered that I had somehow NOT saved his photos I could have crawled under the bed and stayed there. After 35 years of marriage he managed to forgive me. My brother was the live guardian angel who traveled with us. He knew of a program that would recover photos even after they had been deleted.

I have one brother and he is an angel.
I have one husband and he is an angel, too.

This is one of the photos that was recovered from the photo card.
Phew!

Sky Watch Friday: Sky Writing

The day before we left Illinois for Hawaii, we were packing up our van and the neighbors all came out to say goodbye. As we stood there chatting, we noticed a sky writer. It spelled out SKY MAIL.COM. We weren't sure at first because it was upside down so it was rather funny to see us all turning our heads upside down to see it being spelled out.

Sky Watch Friday: Double Rainbows

Looking out our front door, we often see a lot of rainbows. This one turned out to be a double rainbow that was so bright that we could see the reflection on the car. Maybe it's because we've been here only a little over a month, but we still get so excited everytime we see one.

Sky Watch Friday: Water Cress Farm

For more great Sky Watch Friday photos, join us at Sky Watch Friday and meet our very wonderful and most cordial host, Tom Wigley and his wife, Jane. The concept for Sky Watch came from Dot and has grown into a dedicated site for this growing meme, kindly hosted by Tom at Welcome to Wigger's World, Sandy Carlson from Writing in Faith and imac from imac's photos from the mind's eye.

This water cress farm has been there since I was a little girl. It always seemed like such a peaceful haven amidst all the traffic and shopping center next to it.

The tree in front is a koa bush which is always full of seeds. Those seeds are often used to make leis.

Sky Watch Friday: It's a Palm Tree, It's a Coconut Tree, It's a Cellphone Tower!

We were commenting at what a tall coconut tree that was when my brother laughed and said, "Look closely. It's a cell tower!" I wish all cell towers could be camouflaged so nicely with the environment.

I'm posting this a little early. I still don't know the time difference between England and Hawaii. I'll add my link to Tom's site later in the (my)day.

Sky Watch Friday

I haven't been able to take many photos in Hawaii yet. We've just had too much to do. However, for Sky Watch Friday I just stuck my camera out of our second floor window early this morning to take a photo up the mountain and down toward Pearl Harbor. We're now living on the island of Oahu in a town called Pearl City.
