A couple of weeks ago, Art took me to Tripler Army Hospital to see my nurse practitioner for my regular 3-4 month check-up. We have to go through a military check point where there is 100% ID security checks. Sometimes there are civilian security people, sometimes there are soldiers manning the entry. Art is a retired officer so he will often get a salute and sometimes just a wave through. It's not a big deal.
Well, this time the soldier in charge checked Art's ID and came to a brisk attention, saluted and said, "Thank you for your service to our country, sir."
As he drove toward the hospital, Art was quiet. Then he smiled. "Wow, that felt really nice," he said. "I can't remember the last time that someone thanked me for my service."
So to all our veterans and those presently serving, we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your dedication and service to our country. You make us proud.
