This evening, we had just locked the doors and closed all the windows downstairs when we heard running feet and a hand at the door. We were all rather shocked wondering what kind of burglar would be trying to get in. OK... so I'm being a bit melodramatic here.
I unlocked the door and peered outside.
It was my brother! Good gracious! Dennis thrust a little box out at me and said, "These are really, really good. You have to try it." And then... like a magical Menehune (Hawaiian version of a leprechaun) he was gone.
I opened the box and found these little fried balls of poi (paste made from the taro plant) mochi (glutinous rice). I know. I know. It sounds pretty bad but I knew just looking at those little suckers that it was going to be scrumptious!
I know. I know. Bad for me.
My mom looked at them, eyes gleaming. Art had that knowing grin that told me he was going to make me exercise a bit more tomorrow (unless it rains). The outside was crunchy and warm and when you bit into these donut hole sized pieces of heaven you got a sweet, soft and sticky paste that just made you smile.
Yuuuuummmmmm....
I know. I know. Only low carb veggies for me tomorrow.
