A good friend of mine in Iowa just sent us this forwarded e-mail with photos of hummingbirds. I was so amazed that I wanted to share it with you. The following is the caption that came with it. Isn't it incredible?
"This is something I have never seen before, or ever even heard of. This lady lives in a Hummingbird fly zone. As they migrated, about 20 of them were in her yard. She took the little red dish, filled it with sugar water and this is the result.
The Woman is Abagail Alfano of Pine, Louisiana - she has been studying them daily and one morning put the cup from the feeder, with water in it, in her hand; as they had gotten used to her standing by the feeder they came over to her hand. She says in touching they are as light as a feather. Abagail also said, 'if she had known her husband was taking pictures she would have put on makeup."
I'd seen that before, but it was so nice to see it again, and I enjoyed it just as much. I feel like I have had a magical day if I just see a hummingbird, and I don't get many of those. That lady must have felt very blessed.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Candace. There's something about hummingbirds that is somehow fairy tale like.
I've seem that too, but don't remember where. I love the little hummers. I finally saw a female ruby-throated over the weekend. So far there had only been a male.
ReplyDeleteamazing, we had tons of hummingbirds in our last place, it took tons of sugar water to feed them, we finally stopped as they get dependent on you for food. instead we planted some honeysuckle vines for them to get their food naturally. they are amazing how they fight with one another to get to the feeder.
ReplyDeleteThat must be such a sight. We don't get humming birds here in the UK of course, but I remember being stunned by them when I was teaching in Jamaica for a few months.

I had seen this e-mail some time ago. It inspired me to set a goal this summer. I am going to try and have hummer's eating out of my hand. We have hummers here now, but they are far and few between. More should be around soon. Lisa
ReplyDeleteWow, that is so sweet. Consider it new with me. I don't open mail that's forwarded so I never saw it. I can't imagine hummingbirds feeding out of my hand, they're just to shy around here.
