I just read in the Honolulu Advertiser yesterday that there's going to be historic 60 foot (How come they say foot instead of feet?) wave heights on the North Shore tomorrow. I'm curious. Yes, I know curiosity killed the cat.
I asked Art if we could go to the North Shore tomorrow since I've never seen a wave even 20 feet high. Can you imagine what a 60 foot wave height would be like? Maybe it's because we've just seen the movie 2010, but I'd like to see it. Art says he's already seen some when he was in the Air Force and stationed up high on Kaena Point. However, I haven't. No, I wouldn't be so stupid as to stand on the beach. I can't swim for one thing. But 60 feet? And historic? I know my son would love for me to see that.
Only one problem. Traffic. They said the traffic will be madness. What if we left at 5:30 AM? Maybe nobody will be up then? I haven't convinced Art yet. We'll see.I mean... 60 feet? Historic? Doesn't it sound amazing?
Well that is one big wall of water. I suppose you will see some immortals trying to get killed -- I am sure they will be there.

ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine what a 60-foot wave looks like. It would be truly awesome to see, I bet. Hope the tsunami warnings don't go off by mistake!

ReplyDeleteMaybe traffic will be light on a Monday, but beware of rush hour traffic. People may be driving to work in the city.
ReplyDeleteDavid and I wanted to see the surf years ago, so we went to the North Shore on a weekend. Big mistake. The traffic was bumper to bumper. We had to turn around and go home without seeing the sights.
That is a wall of water and worth seeing. Sorry Art!

ReplyDeleteOh please be careful! This fall a huge rogue wave washed about a dozen people into the ocean off Bar Harbor. They were watching the high waves from the normal viewing area of Thunder Hole but they were too close. A little girl drowned. So if you do go please stay way, way back!

ReplyDeleteMr. Lincoln's right, I'll bet--the first thing I thought was wow, watch some fool head straight into it! And I can't help but think that after watching 2012, it might be a bit scary?
ReplyDeleteBut I'd loooove to see it, I'd want to go! But my guess is that half the island will want to see it too, and even leaving horribly early you might end up with a view of nothing more than the bumper in front of you. And where will everyone park?
But if I lived there I would have to at least *try* to get there, and if it didn't happen, just enjoy the sunrise instead.
"Foot" is correct in this case because it refers to size, in which the plural of foot is (weirdly) foot. "Feet" is correct when measuring distance, though it is often used for size as well these days. I'd love to know why it evolved that way, but there you go! LOL
It would be amazing to see, but won't they show it on the news later? That'd be a lot safer.
