Art got up at 5:30 this morning when the temperatures were 39 degrees to pick up a neighbor and head down into Chicago for the Breast Cancer Walk to Empower Race. The plan was for all of us to go but I couldn't see waking KC and going out into the cold to walk when she still has a cough.

The 44 story CNA building had a huge ribbon. That's the Sears Tower on the left. Oops! I mean Willis Tower.

Art's mom had breast cancer and had a double mastectomy. She eventually passed away of throat cancer way too soon. She was the sort of mother-in-law paragon you wish everybody had.

Art and our neighbor, Alvin ran for the United Airlines team.

Art says although the temperatures were cool, it was a sunny day and no windchill. There were a reported 50,000 participants in the walk/race.
It was a lovely start to Mother's Day and it ended especially happily for KC who got to have her mommy and daddy back home.
I hope you all had a terrific Mother's Day!
Now I understand the connection for Art of the walk and his mother. What a good son to honor her in this way.
ReplyDeleteThe cruise seemed so short, for us readers, anyway. How much longer will you be staying?
Hooray to Art for walking. What a great way to honor Mothers --- all women -- on Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way for Art to honor his mother and on Mother's Day! I love the ribbon on the CNA building!
ReplyDeleteDina: We'll be on the Mainland until June 1st. We're going to New Mexico for a few days on Friday to see Jon.
ReplyDeleteQuilly: He really enjoyed the day and the race.
Sherri: I think it's pretty cool too. I love Chicago. It's such a beautiful city.
surprised to see Art in shorts, but I guess it was sunny with no wind!
ReplyDeletewhat a great vacation and mother's day you've had. congrats on your accomplishments and happy mom's grandmother's day yesterday.
ReplyDeletePatty had breast cancer in each breast, 10 years apart. It is hard to get through the treatments.
ReplyDeleteMy first trip downtown to visit a Japanese friends house involved going to the public bath with the family. Boy was that a revelation. I had never stripped off in front of anybody let along a whole public bath full of people and then the momma san had to take me by the hand, show me how to squat and she poured hot water over me to rinse off the dirt before I got in the water.
I agree what a good son and what a great event. I laughed so hard about KC - False Alarm. She sounds a very clever little girl!
ReplyDeleteGood for Art! He's a good man. Enjoy the rest of your vacation.
ReplyDeleteYou are wonderful people in all that you do for others! God bless you.
ReplyDeleteChristine: I was rather surprised myself, but he says he was comfortable once he started running.
ReplyDeleteLin: Thanks, Lin. Like you, I'm finding it a lot of fun to spend time with my granddaughter.
Abe: I give you a lot of credit to do the public bath. I'm afraid I won't even do the onsen. Maybe someday.
Lilly: I swear she's a tad bit too clever for her own good.
Janie: So true... he really is.
Mare: Awww... that's so nice of you, Mare.
Bless that man of yours. What a wonderful tribute to mothers and all women everywhere!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job potty training, # 1 in the toilet is great. #2 will follow.
Great job Grandma!!!
God bless Art and all 50,000 that showed up. I like his picture and the balloons above him and glad the weather co-operated.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful of Art and all the many others who took part in the walk/race event. I do hope KC's parents had a wonderful cruise. I had to chuckle over the "false alarm" comments!
ReplyDeleteGood for Art! And yes, I did have a good Mother's Day, and more importantly, so did my mother.
ReplyDeleteGreat walk !!
