We've known this since the week she was born. KC was sometimes a fussy baby, but Art would patiently carry, cuddle and comfort her until she would go back to sleep.
He never tired of giving her his undivided attention. If the rest of us were too tired, Grandpa was always there to love her and let her know he would always be there for her.
At first she called him "Papa," but now she can clearly say "Grandpa." When she sees him appearing on Skype, her face lights up.
In Illinois, Art would take her around our village for walks even though he'd end up having to carry her at times when she'd decide she had enough exercise.I have to laugh because when our kids were growing up, Art was the one who could exert more discipline. He almost never raised his voice. It just took one little exhale and you'd hear Jon say, "Why is Dad mad? He's mad, right?" When I'd explain that Art was just tired from a long day at work, Jon would say, "I don't think so. He just did THE SIGH."
Tif said, "I hope you don't mind, Mom."Of course, I don't mind. How could I be jealous that Art is KC's best friend? Not at all. Not one remote bit, because he's my best friend, too.
Lucky lucky family you are to have each other.
ReplyDeleteLove that about The Sigh.
how sweet, the world needs more grandpas and husbands like that. I know my grandkids are always disappointed if grandpa doesn't come with me on visits!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story. (And the pictures are precious, too.) I
ReplyDeleteHow sweet is that!! I wish I could Skype with my mom. She is fearful of "that kind of stuff" on the internet. I know she would love it!! I love your tribute with the pictures, very nice:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious moments you can share with your family! To hear a grandchild say that grandpa is her best friend is wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post, Kay, and how blessed all of you are to have one another, to be able to share such lovely moments and so much love! Have a beautiful weekend!

Great tribute to your husband, Kay. I liked that bit about THE SIGH, because I tend to sigh a lot no matter where I am. People never fail to ask, "Why are you ALWAYS sighing?"
ReplyDeleteJust a bad habit. Boredom, not anger.
That's beautiful, Kay, you and your granddaughter have the same best friend. Art must be a very special guy. I'm looking forward to meeting him, along with his first best friend!!

Kay;
ReplyDeleteNot a truer story ever told.
Art is someone that will have your back even when others turn away.
Whta a nice bond that she will cherish year after year.
My husband is my best friend too!
It's so nice when that happens.
There is such a cute commercial on Tv with grandparents...the last picture is of a little girl and her grandpa and the little girls says, "My grandpa is my best" friend. I love it.
Oh, you bring tears to my eyes. Thanks for this.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story of frindship and Grandpa love. The pictures are great and tell the story on their own.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story. But you know, I've found our grandson tends to go back and forth between us, depending on what stage he's in. Don't give up, she'll like you best at some stage in life.
ReplyDeleteThat was beautiful to read, and God bless you all.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!!!

ReplyDeleteThat was such a sweet post. When I was growing up, my dad just had to walk into my bedroom and I'd start to cry. I couldn't stand the idea of disappointing him. Your family is just the best, Kay.
ReplyDeleteOh, Kay, your last line went straight to my heart. "How could I mind because he's my best friend too".
ReplyDeleteSigh. (and not the mad kind)
What a wonderful post today! I absolutely love it. You seem like such a happy family; that's a rare gift.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post -- what a wonderful guy! I can't help but love someone who can play legos while wearing a paper party hat LOL
ReplyDeleteShe's a lucky little girl; I never knew my grandfathers.
What a sweet post..my husband too was the calm one...he could get my daughter to behave with one raised eyebrow...I was far less subtle....
