Before we left for California, I had about a 1/2 gallon of chocolate milk left over that would not keep until we got back. My mother does not drink chocolate milk unless I make her a mocha. And milk is too expensive to waste in the islands!At the last minute, I had an idea. I got out my old ice cube trays and filled them with chocolate milk and froze them. Then I totally forgot about it until today. I added a few to my coffee this morning and it was just fine. It took a bit to get it to melt and mix properly, but certainly adequate in a pinch.
I put the chocolate cubes into a plastic freezer bag. Now I'll always be able to make my mocha.

ReplyDeleteI was standing in the grocery check-out line a few years ago and noticed the lady in front of me had about 8 gallons of milk in her cart. I asked her what she was doing with all that milk. She said she shops only occasionally, so she freezes the milk for future use. I've now done it occasionally, and it freezes just fine. Takes forever to thaw, but freezes fine!

ReplyDeleteIf I don't put our milk on the door it freezes. Does that count? LOL We go through milk too fast to even think about freezing it. Ooooohhh I just got an idea!! I can freeze some for hot cocoa! Just the other night I put ice cubes in Matthew's hot cocoa. It would taste better with milk!

ReplyDeleteLOL you remind me of something from Heifer Ranch. If a doe or ewe gave birth and then would not let her kid or lamb nurse, we would milk the first milk, i.e. the colostrum, so important for the baby's immune system. We froze it in ice cube trays for easy defrosting and bottle feeding. But you never knew what you'd find in the freezer of a house of young volunteers, especially Livestock vols. :)
