Night Terror

I was at the laboratory with two other technicians.   There was a problem with some hidden alien thing getting into our lab and contaminating what we were researching.  I was busy swabbing the different areas such as air ducts where foreign objects might enter.  I was worried that something horrible might ruin everything we'd accomplished.  That's when I passed a mirror and looked to see if I was not disheveled or anything.

Looking in the mirror I saw behind me the biggest, scariest snake I'd ever seen, about to lurch forward and bite me.

I SCREAMED!  Loud!

I'm not sure if I was flailing or what but the next thing I knew Art was touching my shoulder saying, "You're having a nightmare.  What is it about?"

He says I gave him a scare, screaming like I did.

Why in the world would I have a dream like this?  I don't remember being startled in a dream like this before.  I've had dreams where I'm falling.  I wake Art up with those too.

I wonder if this makes up for his snoring.

  1. According to the dream dictionary, to see a snake or be bitten by one in your dream signifies hidden fears and worries that are threatening you. Your dream may be alerting you to something in your waking life that you are not aware of or that has not yet surfaced. (Of course there are more interpretations that apply to sexual meanings that I am leaving out. LOL)

  2. Oh gosh, how ghastly. I have huge numbers of unpleasant, scared or just plain weird dreams that sometimes tip over into nightmares where I just have to wake Christopher up, put the light on and make a cup of tea before I can get to sleep again. Christopher says that all my bad dreams are due to anxiety, or possibly (tongue-in-cheek) a bad conscience!

  3. I've noticed I have vivid dreams when I'm exhausted, any chance of that with you?

  5. Ha, those would only make up for his snoring if you had them every night. Pretty sure the revenge wouldn't be worth it.
Thankfully he woke you up in time. Art's timing was great.

  6. That is indeed a scary dream! I think the fact that you SAW the snake before it bit you, and you woke up, is a good sign. I don't have nightmares since I retired, but when I was stressed at work, I had them often. Is something stressing you right now?

  7. sometimes dreams can be related to medication you are taking or just started. How good to wake up to find hubby there...

  9. Scary dream!! I don't dream much at all or if I do I can never remember them the next morning! Probably just as well! Hope your week is going well, Kay, -- except for the nightmare, but hopefully no more!

  10. Gosh, I couldn't recall when you were a lab tech, until I read your entire dream story. If it's not any of the above, I've noticed I'll have a bad dream if I watched a similar thing on a TV show within a few days prior. Try some wine or sake. No snakes in Hawaii, remember? DrumMajor

  11. Lin: glad you brought up medication as a possibility, because the worst nightmare I ever had was due to a bad reaction to medication. MSG triggers strange dreams for me, sometimes, too.

  12. Hey! I had the same dream! Except, instead of a concerned Art, I woke up to see my cat looking at me like I was nuts.

  14. Wow, he;s a scary snake. Nightmares, who needs them. David had one last night that was totally unexplainable. They are so real, even though they have nothing to do with reality. Dianne

  15. Snakes are also phallic symbols according to Freud, but what did he know anyway.

  16. Hattie mentions medication as a solurce of dreams. In my case, I often have what I call RACING DREAMS after eating curry. The dreams are really fast and exciting. It's like going to the movies. Fun not nightmarish. Whoo woo! Curry dreams.

  18. I noticed that I always wake up before I die. I guess that's a good thing. ;-)
I had a teacher dream the other morning, and I remembered it all vividly. It was awful, just like one of those worst ever days at school. I haven't had a teacher dream for a long time. I must be commiserating with my daughter, who has a class full of dysfunctional first graders.

  19. we are all squirming, dark pools in the subconscious! Even Kay-

We need to work out many big and scary issues as humans, you deal with them in the sterile lab of your dream!

  20. I used to have horrible nightmares, but I seldom have one at all now that I sleep with a CPAP machine for sleep apnea. It is my (own, humble) opinion the struggle-to-escape dreams were caused by my body struggling to breathe.
I'm not trying to sell anything, but have you been tested for sleep apnea?
Now that the snake got your attention, I can tell you we chose our kitchen renovator today. I'm both excited (about my "new" kitchen) and terrified (about all the work to be done before and after the reno).

  21. I read that if you had something very spicy before you went to bed or if you have too many blankets and get too warm you will get nightmares – but I don’t know if this is true. I hope you won’t have another nightmare like this.

  22. Christine: That may be so since with Jon and Sarah here, I've been more tired lately.

DJan: I am busier with Jon and Sarah here because they're always up to something and want us to come with them everywhere.

Kay Davies: I know I definitely don't have sleep apnea. I never snore. That's Art's department.

Linda Reeder: 1st graders do take a lot of energy out of you. I sure do remember that! Loved it though!
