I Love My New Wallet!

OK... yes... I know.  This might sound like a crazy thing to get excited about.

I keep my wallets for years, even for  decades.  I keep them until they fall apart.  I've always bought the same sort of wallet.

That's why when the last one I had fell apart I asked for and received this one.

It was the same design as my previous purses, but something about it just didn't work.  The leather felt stiff and it felt heavier.

I was shopping with my daughter, Tiffany in Illinois last year and told her about my wallet problem.

She asked if I considered getting a longer wallet that would be easier to find in my backpack.

I told her I didn't want a longer one because it was bound to be even heavier.

Still... it made me wonder.

I've looked at wallets everywhere and they were all wrong.  Too gaudy.  Too metal brackety.  Not enough credit card spaces.  No coin area.  Too heavy.  Too stiff.  Too fat.  Too many doo hickeys that could fall off.

Then I saw this one by chance when I wasn't even looking.  It's light and the leather is supple.  There's lots of spaces for cash and coin; more than ample space for cards of every kind, even coupons.  I love the color which I can see in the dark recesses of my backpack.  I can grab it easily and it feels good to hold in my hand.

Well... that's that!  I hope it lasts for at least a couple of decades.

  1. I love the one Denise gave me when we saw her in Washington, DC last August. The one David got in India fell apart and when his driver's license dropped to the floor, he decided to order a new wallet online. He likes it.

  2. I have a hard time getting a wallet that works. Last year I found one that I liked, which I thought was nice leather. A couple of months later the finish started chipping off on the edges. I haven't decided if I'm going to live with it or start looking for a new one.

  3. May you and the nice new wallet have long life together, and may both be always full.

  4. And it'a just beautiful. I have a small one like yours on top, but it get's too full and hard to handle. I went to the swapmeet and got a bifold one. It shows four sides, and i can have my Y membership showing for use every morning.

  5. I hang on to my wallet, like you, FOREVER! I like the new wallet very much -- is there a place for your check book in it?

    1. Does anyone still carry their checkbook with them? I haven't for ages as I use cash or credit cards and write very few checks.

    2. This is true. I never carry a checkbook anymore. It's got four slots where a checkbook would fit, but it would be really tight. Maybe if you took the checkbook cover off. I'm glad I don't have to worry about it.

    3. On the second thought, these days, using credit cards is spooking me.

  7. It is great to find satisfaction in a little thing like a wallet that is such a part of our everyday life. Mine is old but still works for me.

  8. Things that you use every day just need to be right. I have a hard time finding the right purse. Rather than a wallet, I like a bag with all the wallet stuff built in. But then there are times when I just want a very small purse, like when I'm out antiquing or touring/walking/hiking. I have a small canvas one that I keep coming back to, and a larger on I can put my Kindle in. And when I head off to a soccer match, I carry a little canvas coin purse with card slot where I can keep my light rail pass, credit cards and ID, and a bit of cash and it all fits in a fleece jacket zippered pocket.

  9. My Mom and I used leather ones from Rolfs, exactly like the one in your top photo. When we couldn't find them, I ordered them online directly. They last about 15 years! DrumMajor

    1. Ahhh... Rolfs! I've seen them at the store. Perhaps in another 20 years, I'll check that one out. :-)

  11. Ever since the theft of my purse, I now keep my credit cards and drivers license on my person, along with my phone. Everything else is in my purse, and my other less important cards and checkbook are in a nice pink wallet, too Not as nice as yours, though. :-)

  12. I know exactly what you mean. I have probably had 4 wallets in my entire 61 years. The one I have now will probably go with me to the grave. I bought it about 15 years ago, and it was waaaay too expensive, but I just loved its softness and all the pockets it had so I splurged. Every time I pull it out, I am pleased with the way it works and has held up. I hope your new wallet will do the same for you.

  13. I relate to this post.
My favorite wallet and have never seen one this small
    finally replaced
30 years old, was expensive then
    and now looking so worn
and looked and looked for a small one similar
    Finally found one
    not the same
    but will have to do
    and it is stiff
    but in time will soften.
Do not have another 30 years
so this will be the last wallet for this one :)

  14. I've had my wallet for a few years. It's starting to fall apart though. I got tape on the card pockets to keep them in.

  17. That's a real nice looking purse and a lovely color. I am so boring. I tend to wait until mine drop apart also and then go for a brown or a black. You have inspired me to break out of the mold ;)

  18. My very best, most wonderful and beautiful wallet was a gift. I used it for years. My purse was stolen. Even more than the wallet, they got an unreplacable, forty year old snapshot of my daughters. Moral: keep your eye on that wallet.

    1. Oh my! I'm so sorry, Joanne! Thank goodness I've scanned all my old snapshots.

  19. Oh, yes, and my wallet was stolen when I absentmindedly/accidentally put it into my suitcase, which was stolen off a train from Naples to Rome.
Meanwhile, I love the idea of the soft, supple leather and the distinctive color making it easy to see and more difficult to misplace. Good for you.

  20. I have always bought Buxton leather wallets. At Christmas time good department stores often have them on sale for 50% off and that is when I usually buy one if I am needing a new one. I always use a leather conditioner on my leather purse & wallet. The conditioner helps keep the leather soft & supple and it also cleans the leather. You can buy this product at any shoe repair shop or where leather luggage is sold. A few months ago, I found it being sold in a plastic pop up container in the cleaning aisle of my local grocery store. This is a much easier way to apply the cleaner and then you just dispose of the wipe, I had my purse stolen twice and while the credit cards could be replaced, all the personal photos and items like my Social Security card were a huge hassle. Now I only carry what I will actually need when I go out. I no longer carry a checkbook since I rarely ever write one.
Enjoy your new wallet.it is a very nice color & should be much easier to spot inside your purse.

    1. Hmmm.... maybe a conditioner might help this stiff Buxton. Thank you. Thank you for the warning about safety.

  22. My wallets last forever too...usually at least 10 years or more (I have lost track). Black was my color for purses so I looked ONLY for black wallets. Now I'm starting to like neutral tones...but still have my Coach black checkbook style (length) wallet, get this....from Goodwill. Yup, I cringed at the thought of putting my stuff in a preowned wallet, and it took awhile for it to feel like my own. But I love the Coach brand quality and couldn't pass up the $3.50 price, plus the wallet has improved in beauty with age and the leather never looks worn. I know it is hard for some people to buy used but heck we sleep in hotel beds on trips and use hotel towels so that breaks the ice for me.
