Our house full of family hustle and bustle has been quiet for a few weeks now, but as I look over our many photos, I'm remembering the happy times we had together.
Hearing KC's voice calling out to us when we came out of the airport after landing was music to our ears.
Our daughter, Tiffany, son-in-law, Ed and KC had arrived the day before because they wanted to surprise Art for his birthday.
Unfortunately, it was a bigger surprise than expected because we'd bought tickets for the tour of Hokkaido, Japan.
We gave them keys to our house and car so that they could pick us up when we returned home.
KC and Tif were willing to get up at 6:00 AM to go to the Farmer's Market with us. I wanted to pick up peanuts to boil for Tiffany.
On another day, they wanted to go to the Aloha Stadium to buy some gifts to bring back to Illinois.
Needless to say we were all somewhat jet-lagged, but the excitement of being together kept us moving. I was absolutely stunned at KC's energy level. She never seemed to stop moving and she never took naps like I wanted to.
KC also wanted to help us ALL the TIME. She cleaned the storm doors with Grandpa Art. She insisted on helping me bake a lemon chiffon pie.
However, this is what made us laugh. Art was having a colonoscopy done. Since I don't drive, Art thought this was an ideal time because Tiffany could drive him into town to Straub Clinic.
KC saw poor grandpa having to drink all of that colon prep so she decided to support him in spirit by drinking water out of a similar mug with him.
Art's colonoscopy results were just fine. He was told earlier that he wouldn't have to take another one because you don't have to get them once you hit 75. At Straub, the doctor said he should certainly get another one in 10 years.
Hmmm... KC will be 17 by then. I wonder if she'll come and help Grandpa again.

Oh, my, gosh…Art did colonoscopy prep with company in the house! I cannot even imagine that. All you do is live in the bathroom the day before. I said I would never do another one because the prep nearly killed me. The procedure is a piece of cake, though. I'm hoping they figure out a better way to prep you for it than having your innards convulsed and stripped in such a harrowing way.
ReplyDeleteI understand that it's gotten better. My sister had one recently and said the prep was easy, compared to ten years ago. I only have to get one more and then I'm done with them, too. Little KC is just the cutest! Thanks for sharing her, and her energy, with me, Kay. Tired me out, just reading about it. :-)

ReplyDeleteI have two 6 yr old granddaughters so I know that energy. How great that they were able to be there to meet you at the airport....a great way to start your time together.
ReplyDeleteI have to have mine done every 5 years due to my condition and heredity. My father died of colon cancer at age 87.

Ugh colonoscopy prep is one of the worst things on earth lol. I had one in June. No fun!!

ReplyDeleteIt does startle us to see her maturing. Her Dad doesn't like the photos that make her look older. He might like to see her stay a little girl longer. KC does have a sweet and gentle nature and she loves to learn... And help others.

KC reminds me of something about my childhood. I almost never took naps, I remember in kindergarten that there was nap time. I'd always hate it because I'd just lay there wide awake every single day. BORING
ReplyDeleteI sympathize with Art having to drink such vile fluid. Yes , I've had my colonoscopy. My wife doesn't drive either so a friend had to pick me up.
ReplyDeleteNothing like having to keep up with your kids and grand kids right away after a trip to make you power through jet lag! Your time with KC is so precious to you, and obviously to her too.

ReplyDeleteHey, that's dandy for Mr. Art to keep up with medical check ups. Hooray! Not a fun one to prep for, but it certainly catches or prevents horrid problems later. I just wish they'd let me continue the nice nap created from the sedation instead of bringing me back awake. That was actually a very good example to KC about doing preventative tests. You've all been busy! DrumMajor

DeleteWhen I had a colonoscopy done five years ago the doctor told me he'd see me in a decade. Now I'm getting correspondence from the outpatient center (as well as my insurance company) telling me it's time to come in again. One of these days I'm going to have to get to the bottom of the confusion.
ReplyDeleteYep the prep for the colposcopy is the worst part of the process....and yes KC will be helping at 17 to....the relationship between kids and their grandparents is an amazing one. :-)

ReplyDeleteI have one word for cools copies and endoscopes...yuk! I now face the endoscopy that examines the small intestine. The standard endoscopy only examines the esophagus and stomach. The colonoscopy examines the large intestine. I had the first two in June, all three involve the horrible prep work.

ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I can't rest now. I'm neck deep in photos on my computer trying to make a photo book for KC. I'm at about 90 pages right now. Then I have to work on the Hokkaido album which I haven't been able to do since the family was here. Yiiikes!
