We'd been paying attention to the weather news and anticipating the cooler Halloween weather that was forecasted. However.... it was far worse than we expected.
Here's a sight we never see in Hawaii.
Trucks to pick up piles of fall leaves!
Later in the afternoon, we went to KC's school to help with their fall celebrations. They do not celebrate any holidays at her school, but they can celebrate fall.
Anticipating the terrible weather, Art and our son-in-law Ed volunteered to take the kids Trick or Treating.
Apparently there was sleet, rain and frigid temperatures. It was so bad that it even set a record for the coldest Halloween in 18 years!
Still... Dad and Grandpa gave up before the kids did.
Art said he couldn't believe how KC had the stamina to run around the neighborhood despite the horrible conditions.
They had an incredible haul of candy and other treats. I think everybody thought nobody would show up and dumped extra candy into their containers.
This was definitely a Halloween to remember.

KC sure picked the right Halloween costume to bundle up in! I bet she had layers of clothes under her princess cape.
ReplyDeleteI think she had maybe a couple of thin undershirts and pants under the dress, but not nearly what I would have needed to run around the neighborhood. The cape somehow did repel some of the rain and sleet, because she was not as soaked as I thought she would be.
Deleteholiday pileup-too bad the schools can't celebrate holidays probably like Christmas and Easter!
ReplyDeleteI believe theirs is one of the few schools who did away with celebrating most holidays because it interfered with learning time and because of all the different religions that are practiced.

It was about the worst Halloween I feel I experienced. I'm just surprised the kids lasted so long. Have a wonderful Christmas!

ReplyDeleteThe school system where I worked also banned all holiday celebrations--even Thanksgiving, which seemed strange to me.
It's hard to have religious type holidays where so many different religions are practiced, but I really liked Thanksgiving. Halloween was awfully hectic, but fun. Have a great Christmas!

ReplyDeleteJapan did not celebrate Halloween in the past but I think they have adopted some American holidays. I'm not positive about Halloween but my cousin says they celebrate Valentine's day with some modification. I know they celebrate Christmas even though there's a very small population of Christians there. I understand they eat Kentucky Fried Chicken at Christmas. I wonder why.
