My dear friend, Myrtle sent me more helpful hints that I'd like to try using.
I'm always looking for pebbles or shards of clay pottery to block the drainage holes when I pour dirt into pots.
I've never thought to use coffee filters. Now I just have to remember this the next time I repot our plants.
The photo that Myrtle sent me had a copyright on it so I thought I'd better take my own photo.
Myrtle's photo had large, very pretty paper cupcake cups over tall glasses. I didn't have that. My glass was also too small and when I put the straw in, the cupcake cup would lean against the lip of the glass and there would be a gap where the insects could get in.
I had to switch to this tall mug so the straw would stay put. Maybe I could use coffee filters which are larger.
Art just said, "Why do you even need that? We don't entertain outdoors anyway in Hawaii. We also don't have bees trying to get into our drinks."
Ah well, I tried.
So did I tell you already about WD40 cleaning crayon marks off of walls?

ReplyDeletewonderful tip about the coffee filters in the pots, thanks to you and Myrtle. I wrap my fresh herbs and lettuce in paper towels and keep them in the fridge, they last longer.
ReplyDeleteLacquer thinner or acetone will take it off too. Goof off might too....but it's expensive.

ReplyDeleteThe coffee filters in plant pots is simple genius. I would use the coffee filter cup cover too as I do eat outdoors on the summer.

ReplyDeleteI am tipped out - so many floating around but here's a neat one for people who have locked their keys in their car. This will only work with those remote clicker type keys, and you need a spare key accessible to others.
Call your friend/family member and when they find your spare remote key, have them press on the "open door" icon, directing it into the speaker part of their phone. Meanwhile, face your phone towards the car door. Even though it is silent, the remote works through the phones, and your car door will unlock. For those who don't have remote keys, call AAA. It is a membership that I have never regretted paying for.

DeleteI learned it from a youtube vid how to easily rid corn on the cob of the "silk" and covering and cook it the same time. Just microwave each ear of corn for 4 minutes. When done, the silk and covers slid right off and there is hardly any or no silk caught between the rows of corn. It is SUPER hot, so use towels or mitts. They recommend chopping off the end but I just yank everything off. Due to the heat, the silk shrinks and kinda curls. It is 4 minutes per ear, so if you micro two ears, it's 8 minutes. Search youtube for how to micro corn to see the video. I no longer have to hassle husking the ear and no more silk between my teeth. Soooo duck soup. -N

DeleteBeen using coffee filters in my flower pots for...oh...probably years. I read, also, that they're good for wiping mirrors, etc. No lint!

ReplyDeleteNo, I guess you don't have to use pebbles. By the time the filters deteriorate, it's supposed to be about time to repot anyway. At least, that's what I read.

ReplyDeleteI forget the ones I see too. I use baby shampoo to wash my make-up brushes. Does that count? I put a drop or two in the soap dish and wash out my eyeliner brush as after I use it.
