Needless to say, we are really excited about our daughter and family visiting this summer. Whenever there are guests coming to stay, it motivates us to fix, add or clean something.
When our friends, Kara and Ish came earlier, Art cleaned all the windows inside and out which is a job he doesn't really enjoy so he needed that motivation to do it.
Now we've got our favorite granddaughter coming and Art wanted it perfect for her (and her parents, of course).
KC used to take a tub bath in our master bathroom, but she's almost 10 now so we felt she was ready for the big girl (and boy) shower stall in the guest area.
However, she's quite petite so he installed an adjustable bar to lower the shower head for her.
I bought a spam musubi maker too. Now I just need to try making one so that I'll be ready for them.
Yes, it's true. Spam is BIG in Hawaii and spam musubi is an island staple. I wonder if it's possible to make it healthier.
Hmmm... What else can we do?

ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. An old friend from Switzerland stayed at my little apartment a few days this week. Now she's gone but I am still enjoying how orderly and clean the place became. Incentive and deadlines are important motivating factors. :)

ReplyDeleteI make my spam slices a little thinner - does that make it healthier?
Sometimes I put ume (no seed) in the rice and then form the rectangle by hand. Sometimes I add takuan.
You can also do it with barbeque chicken instead of spam.
sounds like you both have been busy while awaiting the arrival of KC and family. hope you all have a wonderful visit. that spam musubi looks very interesting. our sushi restaurants don't carry them yet (at least I haven't seen one). but, if i have the chance one day i will try it. have a great night~

ReplyDeleteWe put up the Baby/Child gate in front the stairs going down two years ago and I think KC was a trifle insulted. We took it down.

We were just talking about Spam yesterday. For some reason it was on the news. I know it is big in Hawaii. Not here. I don't know anyone who eats it. I have never gotten past the look of it.

ReplyDeletewhat a great idea, I had no idea they made adjustment attachments for the shower,, thats great! I can only imagine how excited you are for this visit, we have a product in Canada that is almost the same as Spam, its called Klik, canned pork mixture, we have eaten it as long as I remember, cold or fried on toasted sandwiches, its firm slice able salty meat and when fried gets a crusty layer on the outside. Most people now deny eating it but it disappears off the shelves so as unhealthy as it is I think there are many sneaky Klik eaters out there. Just another of hose foods we know are unhealthy but just hard to not resist lol.

ReplyDeleteIn our local newspaper it stated in a huge report on rents that our tiny town Vancouver Washington is more costly than anyother town in Washington state with the exception of Seattle and it's burbs..also it stated Hawaii is the most expensive state to live it would take 3 and 1/2 jobs at good wages to live there..No wonder you are so happy, you live in a home you built and it is lovely plus your hubs Art does lots of things to fix it up and remodel and you do toooo..No wonder you are always smiling and happy, not the case in our sweet town, many come from Portland Oregon seeking employment and places to rent and or own, sadly they cannot get jobs that are living wages and homes to rent and places like apartments are prohibitively high priced..Plus hunger is a big issue, that is why I spend and my hubs too spend lots of time cooking and baking and getting food at a pantry, the people work in excess of 60 hours and the main bread earner is always hungry...We are escaping to the beach as it is suppose to be in the 100's today and tomorrow and Monday the high 90's it will be cool on the Washington coast where we go and have a ball with kindergarten friends. Enjoy your KC grand daughter and your daughter and sil tooo..ALoha to you and yours from mary from the 'couv we are off for some coolness and fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteThat is a neat shower thing for kids. I'm not exactly short but the shower in the bathroom here hits me right in the head and it's very annoying. I know your granddaughter will appreciate it.

ReplyDeleteThis is the type of adjustable shower that one finds in almost all hotels throughout Europe. I am always surprised that hotels in the US, even the very expensive ones, don’t offer these adjustable showers. I’ll have one placed in our bungalow when we move. They are great for children, too. What fun for you to have your granddaughter coming for a visit.
