Finally!
We didn't think we'd ever catch a slug in our beer trap. We caught several cockroaches, but never a slug.
Until one morning....
At last! We caught one!

ReplyDeleteYesterday on my walk, I must have seen a dozen long slugs on the trail. There is no shortage of them, but congratulations on finally helping one to its boozy demise. :-)

ReplyDeletei have tons of them this year. put the beer in a lower container like a lid from a jar and you will catch a lot more.
ReplyDeleteI hate those nasty things. I suppose they have some good purpose in creation but it's beyond me to know what it would be. Yuck.

ReplyDeleteYour beer appears to be in a tall container in the photo. Slug traps need to be right on the ground to catch them. When I had a slug problem in my garden, I used jar lids and they worked wonderfully. If you switch to a very low container, or bury a taller one so it barely sticks above the ground, you'll catch a lot more slugs. Good luck.

ReplyDeleteI once bought some really cheap beer to use as a heating up agent in my compost pile. My husband was absolutely appalled at such a use for beer -- even though he would not have drank that particular brand on a bet.

ReplyDeleteI had no idea they grow so big, my gosh that is huge. The slugs here in Northern Ontario are so small, inch to maybe inch and a half tops, I found wood ash worked good sprinkled around the base of my plants,, the beer never worked for us but your king size slugs must have a mighty thirst.

For reasons unknown, I'd never seen a slug or even a photo of one. That's a big critter you caught!

ReplyDeleteKay, that slug is huge!! We have a slug problem in NC too but they are not that big!! YIKES!! They do alot of damage though. I put slug bait out and that has worked some what.
ReplyDeleteWe stopped having slugs once the coqui frogs took over. Don't know if it's worth it!
