There was a day last week when I did almost nothing. How did that happen?
Mom was puttering all over the place with her gardening and house things. Art had gone walking with his classmate all morning and then off to do whatever.
I started reading a book, took a nap and sat around and did nothing. I was going to write some blog posts. I didn't.
I didn't do any chores. I didn't cook anything. I didn't exercise. I did nothing.
When dinner time rolled around I was surprised that the whole day had just slipped by.
Have you ever done this?
I felt a little guilty about it and wondered if I'd wasted a day in my life.
I'm thinking about it now though and have to confess... well... I enjoyed it. So that's that.

Everyone needs those days. I will be honest with you in that most of my days are like that. I do a few chores or errands and then reward myself by doing nothing. I should be more active..but.
ReplyDeleteI don't consider reading a book doing nothing but you're right that the day just slips away. I have less of those days here at Vantage House than I did living at our old house.
ReplyDeleteWell ... reading and napping are something.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tabor. Everyone does need a few days with absolutely nothing to do but read. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel guilty, Kay. Our bodies and minds need to have "unplanned" days sometimes. It is good to rest and relax. As busy and active as you are in retirement, I'm surprised you actually managed to "accomplish" a day of "doing nothing." Congrats! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteit's OK. I'd do nothing today, except I have something to do.
ReplyDeletewe all need a day like that now and then to rest and reccuperate our energies-I do it every afternoon with a nap!
ReplyDeleteI have days that feel like that too
ReplyDeleteThat's why you are retired, so you can have days like that.
ReplyDeleteOh yes... but I have days where I am on the go from sun up to sun down so I like to think that if my days were weighed together, I'd average a fairly active day, even when I didn't get dressed or leave the house.
ReplyDeletep.s. And I truly enjoy those days! I figure I've earned a few Do Nothing days!
DeleteNot a waste at all! Those are the days to recharge our energy.
ReplyDeleteI do that quite often and certainly more often than you.
ReplyDeletesometimes days like that are good for you!
ReplyDeleteThe sacred 'Doing nothing' very good!
ReplyDeleteI do this way to often. Actually, I don't think it is a bad thing. My hubby and I just had a conversation about this today. I said I had just wasted two hours this morning. He said he didn't see it that way at all. He said it left him refreshed when he has down time. I think we push ourselves too much too often. Sit and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteIMO you and Art are the gasa-gasa couple. I have friends like you who are always busy since retiring - mostly with their grandkids and all their activities - and there are lazy hazy ppl like me. I spent the majority of my life working like a dog, jobs where I work 6 days a week and until 10-12 pm. Now, I've earned my lazy hazy and am loving every single minute. Though the days are really going by faster now, it seems. BB
ReplyDeleteArt is definitely gasagasa! I swing both ways. I was so busy working on those photobooks for what seemed like months that I just want to veg out and not have projects. But now I see him looking for trips again.
DeleteSome days are meant to go like that.
ReplyDeleteBut sometimes a day like this is just great ...
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend wishes
All the best Jan
I always long for a day to do nothing but I usually wind up mad at myself for wasting the time.
ReplyDeleteSundays are my do-nothing days. The rest of them I work at getting in my steps. I'm unhappy if my daily average for the week falls below 12,0i00. But that's just me. :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great day to me! Good thing you aren't into Korean dramas - yet.
ReplyDeleteGee that sounded like a rather busy day for me:)) Seriously, they happen for good reason and I feel are necessary. They let us recharge and that is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's good to just putter around and let the batteries recharge.
ReplyDeleteI think so too. Thank you for visiting, cube.
Deletesounds wonderful
ReplyDeleteI am addicted
to busyness.
now much older
everything takes longer
and I never catch up.
guess the life of 80 living solo :)
Doing nothing is my favorite state to be in!
ReplyDeleteYes, I've had a day of doin' nothing. The first time was special 'cause I sorta felt like I was getting away with something. But then, since I live alone, there was no one to share my giddiness with. I did IM my BFF in another town as had to share this momentous occasion with someone. Glad you enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteDoing nothing is being forced on me right now, because of very very low energy. But I am mentally hyperactive, so I force myself to put all my reading and internet stuff aside for at least an hour a day and just relax. It does me a lot of good.
ReplyDeleteOh Kay, I'm so PROUD of you!!
