I saw a post about the two inauguration cakes on Facebook a while ago and then saw a segment on Trevor Noah's Daily Show last week so I looked online to get a clearer idea of what happened.
We all know about Melania plagiarizing Michelle Obama's speech and wondered why the Trump team would have her do that. They had to know that fact checkers would find out.
But cakes? Seriously?
Duff Goldman, owner of Charm City Cakes baked the 2012 inauguration cake for President Obama.
Tiffany MacIsaac, who owns Washington's Buttercream Bakeshop, told the The Washington Post that she was asked to recreate the one used at Obama's ball. She also said she would donate the proceeds to a charity for gay rights.
I found this on ABC news.
“They came to us a couple of weeks ago – which is pretty last minute – and said, ‘We have a photo that we would like to replicate,’” MacIsaac told The Washington Post.
The bakery tried to find out if the client wanted to use the cake as inspiration or an exact replica, but the person who brought in the picture said the cake should be exactly the same, MacIsaac said."
Reports also mentioned that although all of Obama's cake was real, only the bottom layer was edible in the Trump cake, the rest was styrofoam.
And I'm wondering why the Trump team would want to do this.
It's all so peculiar.

ReplyDeleteIt's all smoke and mirrors. And shortcuts. I just read a NY Times article and they mentioned that he doesn't read fully the executive orders he signs. You can fake it with a copycat styrofoam cake but not with actually being a president.

ReplyDeleteWhen I worked for a company in a very conservative county in California the boss whose son was running for state office, they had a huge party the whole place was Republican I am a lifelong democrat had a big party, the cake was suppose to be real but it was full of Styrofoam..I was suppose to cut it but I knew it to be fake just like the boss's son was..I politely declined to cut anything and left the party to walk about 2 miles to my tiny apartment. Fake is Fake is Fake, Hate is Hate is Hate just like the fellow who wrote Hamilton was want to say about winning the emmy's...as the days progress with our president I cannot even say his name I dislike him so much, I pray and try to be even nicer to my fellow man..He is proving what he really likes, HIMSELF, MONEY, HIS FAMILY TO MAKE MORE MONEY, HIS CRONIES WHO APPOINTEED TO IMPORTANT CABINET POSITIONS AND TO YOU KNOW WHAT WITH ANYONE WHO GETS IN HIS WAY..THESE ARE THE TIMES THAT TRY A MAN'S SOUL I SAY, aloha to you and your hubs and also your sweet mom too, from mary in the 'couv, Vancouver Washington USA!

ReplyDeleteHow strange. I would have predicted he would want a bigger, "better" cake than anyone before him. Preferably trimmed in gold leaf. I wonder if it was all for show or someone actually ate the edible layer.
ReplyDeleteThey showed the cake on the Daily Show. The only part removed was the slice that was cut out by Trump and Pence.
DeleteThe only trouble with this weird reality show is that we can't turn it off. It seems to keep trying to out weird the previous day and does. Sigh.

But if anything/anyone paints them in a less-than-flattering light, it's either fake news or paid-for protestors. :: shakes head in disgust ::
