When I broke my arm in May, Art's cousin, Renee brought over an orchid plant for me. It was gorgeous.
In mid June our daughter, Tiffany and family arrived and marveled that the orchid was still so beautiful.
It was still gorgeous in July. Our son-in-law even touched the leaves to see if it might actually be plastic because the flowers just didn't seem to wilt.
A couple of blooms did fall just before we left with them toward the end of July.
When we returned in mid August we were amazed to find that two flowers were still hanging on. Unbelievable!
And now here we are heading into September. Will they hang on?

ReplyDeleteGorgeous... I love orchids. We see them every time we visit the Biltmore House and Gardens in Asheville, NC.... There is a room in the conservatory dedicated just to all kinds of orchids... They are awesome....

ReplyDeleteI love orchids. Those are part of the butterfly orchid class - phalaenopsis. I had one that kept on living and blooming for months and the stalk would get longer and longer so I had to change the stick that held it upright and redo the ties to support the flowers.
ReplyDeleteIt seemed like it would keep on thriving and blooming and one day a friend came by and commented on how wonderful it was. As she did this, she stroked the flowers and touched the new growth of buds at the top.
Soon after, the flowers began to wilt, all new growth ceased, and after a short while it looked skeletal, so I put it out in the yard on my rock wall. I do believe that these are to be seen with the eyes and not pet like an animal. Breaking my friend of her habit of stroking flowers might be harder to do than putting plants out of her reach.
You must be doing something right with your plant. You must be saying something the plant likes!!!
