We love our granddog, Mungo, but he is an amazing fur shedder. If you don't keep up with vacuuming, the carpet almost changes color.
While in Maryland, Art decided to vacuum several of the rooms, being careful to empty the canister of fur as soon as it looked close to filling.
After a couple of rooms, there was a burnt rubber smell and the vacuum cleaner stopped working. Our son said the vacuum cleaner was pretty old and probably needed to be replaced.
Being an engineer, Art can never give up until he's exhausted all options. He looked online. He says you can find anything on YouTube.
Sure enough, there were instructions on what to do if your vacuum cleaner stops working.
He took apart the bottom of the machine and began pulling out dog fur that had gotten lodged in the rubber belt.
Voila! The vacuum cleaner was as good as new... or almost.

You tube has become a great friend to this widow lady. It really as saved me money. Even if I can't make the fix myself I feel a little knowledge helps keep me from being taken advantage of.
ReplyDeleteUGH! Our cats shed a lot, but our vacuum cleaner doesn't do a good job of picking it up. I've had the beater stop because so much human hair got wound around it.
ReplyDeleteWow, good job Art!
ReplyDeleteHe has both attitude and aptitude for these sorts of things.
ReplyDeletemy dog skettles also a fur shedder too. We do not keep dog in the house. Whenever I sweep the garage there is his fur flying about and clots of the fur here and there.
ReplyDeleteWe need more people like Art in our lives. The garbage hills would be much smaller and our money pockets would be bigger!
ReplyDeleteMy long hair cat can leave that grey haze over the carpet. My last pet, I swear.
ReplyDeleteYes, don't give up too soon.
ReplyDeleteWow . . . to the fur . . . and to the repair.
ReplyDeleteImpressive! Art saved your family the expense of a new cleaner. Mungo is so cute! I love that expression on his face.
ReplyDeleteI have a Shark, and it works really well. Which says a lot because we have a yellow Labrador retriever of which it is said - they shed 24/7/365 and that's the truth. I have stopped trying to keep up, but when I do vacuum it cleans all that hair wonderfully! Good for your fella!!
ReplyDeleteIs Mungo Japanese for "Hairy"? Or Harry? Art is one clever guy, and now Mungo's people know what to do with that vacuum too.
ReplyDeleteMy son was in the Peace Corps in Mali, West Africa. He therefore named his dog after this explorer.
Delete“Mungo Park (11 September 1771 – 1806) was a Scottish explorer of West Africa. He was the first Westerner known to have travelled to the central portion of the Niger River.”
sometimes husbands are amazing!
ReplyDeleteArt is a wonder, I think. And yay for having fixed the vacuum! :-)
ReplyDeleteMy dog had a bad fur problem, but we had hardwood.
ReplyDeleteArt is so devoted, even to GrandDogs. What a dandy guy! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteGood job, Art!
ReplyDeleteMy plumber hates YouTube. He said he has so many jobs that become so messed up because of YouTube - sometimes the advice is so poor that the "solution" leads to bigger problems.
However, Art to the rescue, probably looks through several instructions before fixing things best.
It also might work better with a new rubber band. That was a LOT of dog fur.
ReplyDeleteFinding the RIGHT advice on YouTube is an art in itself but it sure is a handy place to figure out stuff. I wish your Art was available to rent. The world needs more men like him around.
ReplyDeleteWell done Art - that looks a lot of dog hair :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I cannot tell you how many times I'e done this! We sprung for a Dyson vac. It has really made a difference. I just love it. Well, with (now) two cats...
