We were scheduled to board the Diamond Princess Cruise ship at 2:30 so we had the whole morning to do something. The Toyoko Inn allowed us to leave our luggage there until it was time for us to leave.
Since it was such a beautiful, sunny day, we decided to take a walk back to the World Porters shopping mall.
Lunch was at McDonalds where we had their Ebi Fillet (shrimp sandwich). Mom liked it.
Dessert was a mango soft serve for mom and me from the Blue Seal Ice Cream Parlor. Their slogan is Born in America, Raised in Okinawa. Art had the Okinawan sweet potato ice cream. We showed mom all the Hawaiian shops.
It was too cold in Sendai for cherry blossoms to bloom so mom wanted to spend some time with the cherry blossom trees outside the mall even though a lot of the petals had fallen.
We arrived at Osanbashi (Yokohama pier) a half hour early, but it didn't make any difference. Because we opted to get the upgrade to make things easier for mom, we were told to go directly into a more comfortable waiting area with Priority Check In. No waiting. This is the first time we'd bought the upgrade so it was.... well.... very nice.
There was champagne, canapes and fruit waiting for us in our room.
At 4:00, everyone went to their Muster Stations where we were told what to do in case of an emergency.
5:30 found us at Sabatini's, a fancy specialty restaurant (also part of the upgrade). Everybody was incredibly friendly and kind. Anastasia from Ukraine even cut mom's food for her. (Mom is used to chopsticks.) We all loved her. The fried calamari was fabulous. Everything was fabulous... but so much of it!
The quantity of food was too daunting for us so we didn't eat at that restaurant much after that. No one had trouble finishing the dessert though.
It was really nice to have that extra space in our suite. A heavy curtain separated our bed from mom's area. Her sofabed was transformed every night into a comfortable bed. There was also a giant TV on both sides of the room.
We were quite pleased with the start of our cruise and looked forward to a comfortable adventure.

ReplyDeleteThis is definitely the perfect start to your trip. The entrees in the regular dining room are usually small, but these desets are hugs. I would have eaten them all too.
ReplyDeleteHow delightful to splurge for first class. It's nice (like when I visit the Islands,) after working so hard. As modest as she is, I'm sure Mom enjoyed the lovely upgrade treatment.
