Hmmm.... I didn't mean for all my blogs this week to be about technology. Especially since I'm almost the last person to go to for technology.
Anyway...
Art was trying to charge his iPhone without success. He plugged in the charging wire but nothing happened.
Then he remembered his high school walking buddy telling him that he'd had the same problem with his iPhone and had brought it in to the Apple Store to ask them if his phone was broken.
The techie genius looked at his iPhone and determined that there was lint in the charging hole. I don't know what you call that place you stick the charging wire.
Art got a toothpick and found that's what had happened to his iPhone too.
There was this big wad of lint in that hole where you stick the charging wire.
Art thinks it's because they keep their iPhones in their pockets where it collects lint.
Tsk...
That never happens to my iPhone because I bought this Otterbox case that has a cover over that charging hole.
My iPhone didn't have a lint problem and it was well protected. It just died of some natural cause that even the techie at the Apple Genius Bar couldn't figure out.
My techie son-in-law and brother are probably both rolling their eyes. They both own Android phones.

Wow. What a simple fix! We are on our first smartphone, no more landline. I'll rely on people ike you!

ReplyDeleteLol. I read that as Cellophane lint and thought ....how could you get lint on something that's shiny and smooth?
ReplyDeleteMy phone has a cover - like a book so the 'hole' (port?) is covered. But I might have a little dig around to tidy up in there :)

ReplyDeleteI've had my cell phone jam up twice. After lots of experimenting and deductions, it was a tiny spot of lint in the hole where the headphone jack goes! The symptoms were: not receiving sound / signals of calls or texts, I couldn't hear anyone who called (if I noticed it on vibrate,) but I could hear them on some headphones in the jack. Turned it off and used the blunt end of an appetizer toothpick to see if I could "unstick" the sides of the headphone jack. Out came a tiny bit of lint. Then it all worked correctly! Yep, I carry my cell in an Otterbox, but it doesn't cover the ports. I carry it port-side up in my nurse shirt lower pockets, so I can hear the rings / sounds. This occurred even with frequently cleaning around the ports and phone. Better than buying a new phone.

It is so very scary in the Midwest right now. Every night, we're hearing about the tornadoes and flooding. We are heading into hurricane season here in Hawaii so that's scary too.

ReplyDeleteI had a friend whose phone wouldn't charge, so he went to an Apple store, which told him he would need a whole new phone. He then went over to an independent outfit, and the guy took one look at it and saw it was just a bit of lint. He removed it and everything works great, didn't even charge him. :-)
