We go to Long's Drugs quite often. Long's Drugs is now owned by CVS, but was allowed to keep its name since islanders have always been used to having Long's Drugs around everywhere.
Well...
For quite some time now they've been giving out these ridiculously long receipts with coupons attached.
Isn't it crazy?
At first it wasn't too bad, but I measured this one and it was about 5 feet long for just 3 items.
It's rather a comedy routine to see the cashier stand there as these super long receipts start spilling out of the cash register.
And those coupons? We haven't used one yet. I wonder about the CEO who came up with this wasteful idea.
Looks like Ellen has already thought about this.

ReplyDeleteI often get a print out of a list of coupons at one of the grocery stores here but nothing quite like that. Lots of places seem into printing out a certain % coupon for your next visit in the next three days. So if they are able to put steep discounts on everything you have to wonder how much they paid for the merchandise in the first place. Yet people rush back to not "waste" a coupon even if it means getting something they don't need.

I've never seen anything like this.

ReplyDeleteI've used CVS for years. If you sign up for their emails and snail mail, you can get 30 to 40% off coupons with a little longer time before expiration. I wait for those big discount coupons, and then go get items that I can't get at WalMart, or items that end up dollars cheaper with the coupon at CVS than WalMart's regular price.
ReplyDeleteMany times you'll get $1 to $5 dollars cash/off with those long cash register receipts. Unfortunately, frequently the cash register receipts give you good discounts of something you just purchased within the last month, so you won't need the item for awhile. I look for the ones I'll use, circle the expire dates and add the day of the week, and stick them in my purse. They add up.
AND, my CVS will let me use all coupons all at once! Like a 40% off of one item coupon, and a 32% off of my entire purchase coupon, all in the same purchase.

Ellen has a good point of two to make, but I kept saying to G that your bill was longer than hers. Yes, we use CVS too. We liked the staff at Longs better. Jack in the Box gives yoou are free hamburger for answering a quiz. LOL More paper.;

ReplyDeleteWell, I almost never go to an actual drug store. Most of my shopping is done at the super market. There the receipt reflects only what I actually buy, and occasionally a couple of small coupons. But, hey, maybe it works. Does anyone actually save and use those coupons. I did enjoy Ellen's take on it. :-)
