When we did the Great Aloha Run last Monday, we passed by Watanabe Florist where every year, their staff will pass out roses to runners who go by their building.
We were early enough that they still had roses and we were able to get two of them which Art carried in his backpack.
I snipped the stems, added some floral fertilizer I had and put them in water.
Over a week later they are still going strong! I've had other roses that have died within a couple of days but these roses are still beautiful and not only that, it's sprouting branches!
I've never had this happen before. No, there are no roots coming out. I checked. But it's still astonishing that they are doing so well. I'm just wondering how long they will live.
Do you know how long cut roses usually last?

I wonder if you could root them and grow a rose bush? Have you thought of calling the florist and asking?

ReplyDeleteWow, even after bouncing around in Art's back pack they look wonderful. Maybe that was the secret.

ReplyDeleteI do not know....But these roses are beautiful! Maybe you could plant them with some rooting hormone and under a mason jar....If you wanted to.

ReplyDeleteI do know that florist roses last longer as cut flowers than home grown roses do. The florist roses are bred for that. And how great that they are lasting so well for you.
ReplyDeleteI know carnations tend to last a long time. Those look like healthy roses. Maybe the floral fertilizer really helps.

ReplyDeleteI thought about it, if I saw roots, BUT then I realized that nobody plants roses in our area. I don’t think it would grow very well in our climate.
DeleteTerrific! Just stick them in medium or even the ground and hope for the best! With your mom's green thumb you will soon have bushes!
