Stackable Ice Trays?

I sometimes have trouble getting the ice cubes out of ice trays so when I saw these apparently stackable ice trays at Ross (a while ago) that would make it easy to remove ice, I thought I'd give them a try.

Those colored bottoms are flexible so you can pop the ice out. But how would you make them stack without falling into each other?

OK... I'll admit I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer because I stared at this forever before getting the AHA moment. Sheesh!

You're supposed to offset the trays!

They really should provide diagrams for people like me. Daaaang!

  1. Haha--these are the same kind of ice cube trays I use, but I only have 2 & slide each tray into a small rack, I never thought of stacking them! I do like how they pop from the bottom :)

  2. Let us know if the ice really does pop out easily.

  4. I had some of these years ago, from Tupperware. I think, when we were downsizing for our move to San Francisco, that I got rid of them.

  5. Oh, wait, I just went back and looked at yours more closely...they don't have covers, do they? The Tupperware ones I had had covers for stacking purposes. And,they did release the ice very well.

  8. Simple solution would have been, " ask Art "?

  9. I laughed at the above answer to "ask Art."

Ok, I got some like these from my local hardware store. I was quite perturbed that they didn't really "stack" cuz the one above would sink into the water of the tray below. But, if you reverse the direction of the 2nd tray, it won't sink into the bottom one. At least mine, have a very slight difference on the molding of each end, so I alternate the stacking directions. I do like the punch-out button bottoms.

I use mine to make "tuna pops" for my grandcats: add some water to the tuna water from cans of tuna, stir it, then I use a baster to put some tuna water into each cube spot. After freezing them, I put them into a plastic baggie, and a second baggie to keep the tuna odor away from human food. The frozen tuna pops go to my son's house, and his cats LOVE Granny. One or two little pops in their tiny bowl makes them very happy to slowly lap up. Also better than trying to get a cat to come when called. They'll follow the tuna pops!
Linda in Kansas, would probably work for "Toto" too.

I love your tuna pops idea. No wonder the kitties love you.

  10. That is what gets called a blonde moment in my house -- even though my hair is grey now. It didn't make me any sharper.

  12. I wouldn't get it, either. Fortunately, I don't use ice; the trays are empty.

  13. I would have been puzzled too. While I have an ice maker, we do have stackable ice cube trays at our cabins, but they have rims that allow them to be stacked. No pink bottoms though.

  14. I would also have wondered about that. I usually end up buying something like this and finding it is of no real use...but the maybe it is my inabilty to think outside the box.

  15. My goodness. Go to target. Their ice trays stack directly. You can go five high! When this pandemic is over I will fix my ice maker and not waste my time with ice trays!
