Trump Science?

There was a clip last night of Trump talking to Governor Newsom of California and the secretary of Natural Resources. As they spoke of the urgency of the climate change disaster already happening on the west coast, Trump remarked,

"I don't think science knows, actually,"

He also said,

"It'll start getting cooler. You just--you just watch."

Duh... well yes, it will start getting cooler. It's fall, for goodness sakes! It's going to be winter after that. This president does not understand the difference between global warming/climate change and seasonal weather change.

And on Wednesday he actually disputed his own CDC director, Dr. Robert Redfield's assertion that the COVID-19 vaccine cannot be ready before the election.

Dr. Redfield also insisted that masks are...

"the most important, powerful public health tool we have... I might even go so far as to say that this face mask is more guaranteed to protect me against COVID than when I take a COVID vaccine."

However, Trump told voters in Philadelphia the night before that...

"There are a lot of people (who) think the masks are not good."

I don't understand. Why is he doing this? Why is he rejecting his own advisors and pretty much promoting COVID spread. He's killing his own supporters who believe him and are following his example.

Trump even held a large indoor rally with thousands attending on Sunday in Nevada flouting the state directive limiting indoor gatherings to fewer than 50 people. Very few people wore masks since most of his supporters believe everything he says.

He told The Las Vegas Review-Journal,

"I'm on a stage, and it's very far away."

Oh wonderful... So it's OK then since he's safe. But what about his supporters who don't wear masks and were certainly not social distancing? I suppose he doesn't care. Everyone who comes near him is tested everyday, so he's safe.

I'm just shaking my head over here... and not understanding it at all.

  1. Me too Kay, I just don't get it! Sometimes I think I do, and then I'm away with the fairies trying to figure it all out.

  2. I have shaken my head so much over things our President says and does ever since he has been in office. It seems like he is getting more outrageous as time goes on, except for the children in dog pen-like cages, sleeping on concrete floors with mylar blankets to cover and comfort them, that is the worst in my opinion, but he seems to keep trying to top that for sheer evil-ness.

It is so unreal to see people crowded shoulder to shoulder, sometimes even bringing children,
attending Trump's rallies, few if any masks; while my husband and I, and many, many other people avoid any crowds, wear our masks and stay at safe distance. My husband and I even keep a safe distance from our daughter, son in law, and grandson (because daughter and son in law have jobs that have covid risk). I will admit that I did touch my daughter's tummy, because she is pregnant with our second grandchild. I wanted to hug them all, but we have all agreed there is risk to that for me and my husband. What a world, where it can be dangerous to hug our loved ones.

I am surprised that President Trump has managed to stay free of illness with his Secret Service people getting sick, and other people in and around the White House being positive for Covid, everyone must be made to keep their distance from him and are tested, or maybe they all wear masks (except for him).

  3. He certainly keeps his army of deplorables on his side with his stupidity.

  4. It is all about him. And there are two worlds these days.

  5. Yep, I've gotten physically nauseated listening to summaries of his speeches. I've had to just read updates. He is evil for dragging easily swayed supporters into his unsubstantiated claims and functionality. He has behaved like this all of his life. His access to the presidential podium just permits an even better spot to spread his garbage. I pray enough Democrats will vote to get him out. We will not be able to change the minds of most of his supporters. Linda in Kansas

    1. Oh no... I just heard that Ruth Ginsburg has died. This is so awful. We will have a totally unbalanced Supreme Court. I doubt that McConnell will say to wait until the next president is elected as he did blocking Obama's pick for a year. This is a terrible time for our country. Losing Justice Ginsburg is such a tragedy in every way. I try not to listen to Trump... but what I do hear is so frightening to me.

  6. Good for you for speaking up Kay! I saw these things on the news yesterday and shook my head in disbelief, just praying our country manages to begin righting itself with the next election--the current administration is getting worse daily, it seems!

  7. He's an idiot! I too am disgusted by what he says, what he does, and his sycophants around him that if they had a soul have sold it. My hope is that we outnumber those that believe him and that we vote with an overwhelming majority everywhere so he knows he's not wanted as President and never was.

  8. I couldn't agree more with all of you. I have friends...even educated friends.... who think he is wonderful....and believe everything he says. Practically everything he says is foolishness or lies. The people who really know him know he doesn't have a clue.

  9. The unfortunate thing is he has supporters, could still win.

  10. Makes one wonder how anyone could possibly support that man. Do they not hear? Do they not care? Or is he saying exactly what they want to hear? Head shaking here also.

  11. Your post articulates all of my thoughts recently. I don’t want to spend much time writing about him because he’s not worth my time. Just know that many of us totally agree with you!

  12. I just pray he goes away. All the books about him tell us that he is not sane, and this is proof.

  13. I think you're spending way too much time paying attention to Donald Trump.

  14. He is the leader of a cult. They don't need anything but their leader to follow his every utterance. And I am trying hard to stay away from the constant coverage he gets (just turned off the TV because of his news brief, where he is blaming blue state governors for the virus). Sigh.

  15. Dear Kay and Friends, just my opinion, this covid nonsense - masks and all - is nothing but a psy-op, but far worse than that is: the business closings (which shouldn't have happened, period!!!) has only served to economically RAPE young people.

Most of us are old, we're either retired or are fixing to retire. In short, many - not all - of us have ours. Not so with young people, many barely making their (insane) mortgages or (doubly insane) rents.

    1. I really don't think it's a "psy-op or nonsense" at all, Sue. Our beloved cousin just died a couple weeks ago of COVID and my daughter knows two people who have died also in Illinois. Our Lt. Governor has now caught COVID himself. Wearing a mask is not just helping to protect yourself from the virus, but mostly to protect others from those who are asymptomatic, uncaring and passing on the virus. I agree that it's a horrible time for our young people, but the situation is dire. Thank you for your comment. We do all need to hear from each other.

  16. e cannot understand the irrational.Trump is irrational so what he says has to be taken that way.

  17. Dear Kay, i'm sorry for your loss. And yes, covid (and the regular flu) are known to sometimes kill perfectly healthy people. As much as i hate wearing a mask, i do so, simply because it's the polite thing to do - oh, but it comes off three seconds after i'm out the door, away from people and headed to my car.

  18. None of what he says or does should surprise us. We knew what he was from the beginning, a narcissist. He down plays COVID because it endangers his chance for re-election. First the virus messed up his big re-election push, the "amazing economy". That's what he was running on. So then he had to downplay the pandemic and tell us it would all be better soon.
He's still pushing that. People don't matter to him. Only he matters. Science gets in the way.
Unfortunately lots of people choose to deny COVID as well because it is inconvenient and restrictive, and after all, we Americans don't like to be restricted. Sheesh.

  21. Have you read this Atlantic article?

    I'm so sad about RBG.

    1. My son and family on the East coast just paid their respects at RBG's memorial. It is so very, very sad. It's devastating. And no, I hadn't read that Atlantic article. But it's all so true isn't it? We do talk past each other. And I've seen family and friends who watch Fox news. It's a different language.

  22. I can't believe how irrational, insulting, dishonest and immature he is--yet people seem to idolize him. I think he is giving them what they want politically and saying what they have been afraid to. They are fearful of other races, religions, ideologies and sexuality/gender, and he plays into that. He and they want to go back to those "good old days" that were only good (if that) for white males. He is risking all our lives with his Covid 19 stupidity and lies; if I could only guarantee that those of us who are trying to be careful wouldn't be exposed to one of his followers anywhere, I wouldn't be so furious and terrified.

  23. It is totally shocking, Kay. It's affecting us all, on both sides of the border.
