I bought a stand mixer a few years ago. Or maybe Art bought it for me as a Christmas gift. I can't remember. To be honest, I only use it for preparing a (very) few baked items. Still, it IS quite convenient.
The only problem is that it's heavy. And the older I get, the heavier it gets. I know I can call Art to carry it out of our cabinet for me, but I'd prefer being able to access it myself.
Art, mom, relatives and some friends do love getting these baked items so I really enjoy making them. However, for the holiday season when there's more baking to do, I decided to leave the mixer on the counter. That meant I wanted to cover it to keep the dust off.
I measured it first but wasn't confident that I could come up with a pattern to fit around it perfectly.
Right now, I only have dinosaur material available (grandsons' masks) and I don't have the luxury to make mistakes cutting fabric.
Therefore I got a paper bag and cut it to fit the mixer in order to create a pattern.
Great re-use of materials. My mixer is also heavy, and I keep lifting weights so that I can lift it out of the pantry when I make cakes, cookies, etc.

ReplyDeleteWhen we moved here this month I debated putting the Kitchen Aide mixer in the cabinet below the counter but as you said it's quite heavy. The counters we have are quite spacious so I put it in the corner. It works well there. DOn't have a cover. May have to make a request of seamstress daughter.

ReplyDeleteThat Kitchen Aid is a mighty fine mixer. Some daughter or dil will be thrilled to have to passed along some day.
ReplyDeleteWe wore out one Kitchen Aid mixer after many many years of use and me rebuilding the internal gearing twice. After finally figuring out that it was the long knead times that were doing it according to the directions, we stopped shearing so many gears and it held up just fine but I could tell by the sound that it was still nearing a new gear job. So last year we upgraded to a new Kitchen Aid mixer. It is almost irreplaceable in our kitchen.
