The Star Advertiser prints a daily photo from the past. This showed the contestants for the Miss Hawaii pageant in 1964. Gee... I was in high school then.

ReplyDeleteBack in the dark ages, when I was 16, I won third place in the Aqua Fiesta bathing beauty contest. That was a long,long time ago. :)

ReplyDeleteTimes sure have changed! During my mother's era, she was so submissive in regard to the white people here. Her boss was haole, our governor was haole. Though, to his credit, Governor Burns was truly a kind man who saw the need and potential to include the other races in his cabinet and had George Ariyoshi as his Lt. Governor.

ReplyDeleteJust lovely. Yes, all our beauties were Caucasian. One year when I saw the all white beauty queens at the Rose Bowl parade, I wondered. I agree with Red tho. It's time to stop the pageants.
