Mom got her 2nd Pfizer shot at Kaiser on Monday. Again, she said she couldn't even feel the needle going in and it was all a breeze.
She had a bit of an achy arm on Tuesday, but that was all.
It wasn't quite as easy to find because they told me it was on the 3rd floor lanai. Where the heck was the 3rd floor lanai? I'd never been there.
Well, after asking medical personnel at the back entrance of the hospital, we were able to locate the area. I didn't even know about that lanai area.
I filled out the papers at Station #1 and then proceeded to Station #2 where a doctor was seated to answer questions.
He told me to call my regular doctor to set up the 2nd shot. That was a surprise. A friend of mine who goes to the VA got the appointment for his 2nd shot at the time he received his 1st shot, just like Art and mom.
We then had to wait a while because they'd run out of Pfizer syringes. Our nurse told us that they defrost just a few at a time depending on how many people were waiting. The syringes were brought down in a blue cooler bag and stored in a portable cooling unit.
OK, it's not like I didn't feel the needle, but it was just a prick and I did feel the vaccine flowing into my muscle. My nurse was so very friendly that it made waiting a pleasure.
My husband and I got our shots Tuesday (Pfizer). I'm so glad about that! Everything went smoothly.

i got my shot yesterday too. they automatically made my next appointment which was a real plus. it was the easiest shot i've ever had!

ReplyDeleteWhen I got my first shot, they gave me a card with the second one date on it...the 26th of this month.

ReplyDeleteWell, at least you got the first one. I am still waiting to find a place I can go for a shot. I hope you get your second one without a problem. That does seems weird, though, that everyone else got their appointment for the second shot but you didn't.
ReplyDeleteI finally got a call from my pharmacy where I registered a week ago. They schedule both shots at once a month apart. Not sure whey each venue is different. My husband got his second appointment on the day he got the first shot. I am just relieved to see more vaccines being available.

ReplyDeleteIt could be worse. My state just put a bid out for software to schedule and track vaccines! Nothing like planning in advance. We are also one of the first states to eliminate all mask and social distancing mandates, just in time for the more contagious UK and African variants to arrive. Sometimes I think our governor lives in a fantasy land.

DeleteWelcome to my world. At least you and your family are getting vaccines. I cannot even get into a place that has appointments before they are gobbled up. So, instead of the frustration and anxiety I feel when I make these attempts, I am just waiting. It's probably better if the frontline workers can get their vaccines first. Especially school personnel. I will continue to stay safe at home as I've done these past 10 months.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got the process working! In my county, the card after the first shot shows when the second one is due. We had to wait until the county computer system opened up 6 days before the second shot was due, THEN we could make an appointment for the second shot. The first shot's location was smaller, and our county moved my second to a much larger fieldhouse to process more people safely. Patience dear Kay. Doc offices are just now getting supplies. Just make sure it's the same type as your first one. Hooray! Linda in Kansas

Tripler and the VA both started giving the1st shot to 70+ this week. They sent us an email and told us to let our doctor know if we wanted one. I signed up and they called one hour later to tell me to come in. I don’t know why they switched to this crazy method of us having to constantly check in at the Tripler website when it’s closer to March. I’ve heard Hawaii is going to open up to 70+ in March. Well, at least that’s what I’ve heard Dr. Green say Gov. Ige should do.

DeleteWe are waiting for our 1st shots - appointments on the 23rd. We expect to get notice then of second shot. All of this was done on the internet when NH opened shots to 65+. Wouldn't it have made sense for there to be a national program?
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain-we were told they would contact us via email to schedule our second shot then a week before they said to check your email on monday. Well I did all day then scheduled somewhere else at sr center rather than hospital. But at 7 pm the email came and I was able to schedule for this week. What a pain, patience is being tested. i hear the second shot can have more reactions-just sore arm with the first. So glad to be getting the second one tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThat would certainly stress me out. As it is, I have two different situations for my parents. With my mom, I watch for an email to sign her up for her second shot. For my dad, who will have his first shot on February 17th I have to sign up on a website--but not too early. Since he has many appointments as well as chemo, that will be tricky. It's all very complicated! It's interesting that you're getting Pfizer because everyone in WA has been getting Moderna. I wonder if certain states get more/less of a particular type of vaccine.

ReplyDeleteSince I'm not even close to the target age I figure it will take a very long time to get the vaccine. However, I've signed up on lists for the state, county, and every hospital group I have an affiliation with. Hopefully down the line it will help me out.
ReplyDeleteAaargh is right! So frustrating to get the run around. But congrats on your first shot and hope all goes well. You will soon be a family of vaccinated people and feel a bit safer to do normal things again.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I am hearing and experiencing, it is unusual not to get the second appointment along with the first or at the time you get the shot. Stay on it and be persistent.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I am reading here and my own experience, you seem to have run into a different method for the second shot. I was given the date of my second one on the card they gave me for the first. They will call me with the exact time of day later. Just glad your Mom got hers and hope you get yours when the time is ready. Then we can all exhale.

ReplyDeleteGood for you, and great for your Mom. Here they gave me a card with the dates for both the one I just had and the second shot. But it snowed here in Walla Walla so tomorrow's shot is rescheduled for Feb 20th. I was told Pfizer shots can be up to six weeks apart. Don't know about Moderna. They have my name and email and texts about the reschedule. It's really well organized here.

Here in Arkansas, they made my second appointment when I got my first.
