Our new Whirlpool refrigerator was delivered a couple weeks ago. The fridge it replaced was also a Whirlpool that died after about 14 years. We were hoping to get a different brand, but had certain requirements that only another Whirlpool offered. It needed to be as close to counter depth as possible and we didn't want another ice maker/water dispenser since our other ice maker died twice. The only place that had the fridge was Best Buy.
Since the fridge brands were the same, we decided to keep some shelving just in case they might fit.
And nope. We would find that the wire freezer shelves would not fit.
There was a hope for the door fridge shelves though.
We were holding our breath that the new Whirlpool would not stick out too much.
Sigh of relief... It stuck out about the same as the old fridge.
The delivery guys worked very carefully. They wore masks and tried to avoid touching anything. He only peeled off the plastic wrap a little so the handle could be attached.
The delivery guys said we had 15 days to see if we were pleased with the product. If we wanted anything corrected, we could call them to have a technician come to fix it. If it couldn't be fixed, they'd deliver another refrigerator. That was nice to know.
OK... I know you might think I'm anal, but the door handle was just a big off. One is a little higher than the other so Art called the store.
Yup. A technician is coming. I wonder if it's something that can be corrected.
And how am I liking life with no ice maker?
Well...
I liked having that ice dispenser even though I had to fill it manually, BUT I know it's something I can get used to.
Let's hope nothing else breaks down.
Wow, it looks beautiful Kay! Very impressive. Listen, you're not being anal--I see where one handle is a little off from the other, that would bother me too. I'm sure you guys paid a pretty penny for this, you deserve something to be 100% right or get a discount.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the third refrigerator during my life outside of home and I have saved the old shelving both times only to have to toss it because it didn't fit. The refrigerator we have now is the first one with a built in ice maker/dispenser and we love the thing and use it often but yes, it does break down from time to time. I've replaced it twice and the third unit is sitting on a shelf in my garage waiting to be put on when needed. It only takes a few minutes and a screwdriver.

ReplyDeleteIt seems to have worked out pretty well although the door handle could take some getting used to if the can't adjust it.
ReplyDeleteIf I can see that the handles are not level they would drive anyone nuts. I hope there is a fix for that. Appliances have gotten so very expensive -- here's to this one serving you well for a good long time.
ReplyDeleteI am jealous. It will never be possible for me to have a fridge like that because of the way my kitchen is built. I would have to remodel the whole kitchen.
ReplyDeletewe are really spoiled needed icemakers when I read of those in the terrible weather storms in Texas with no power-light or heat! Wow-just blessed to have electricity-we all need to be more prepared for disasters. But congrats on your new frig-it's beautiful. Our new frig from a couple of years back sticks out and we've had to replace the icemaker once-lol!
ReplyDeleteLove your new fridge and hope the offset handles don't bother you too much or if they do, that they can fix it for you. They seemed very accommodating so it shouldn't be a problem.

ReplyDeleteYep, I would've noticed that handle too. Maybe they can lower the door a tad? I have an ice maker inside the freezer, but didn't mess with attaching it at my new apartment. Ice trays are ok. I've even purchased 6 pound bags of ice from my drug store or grocery store to dump into the ice cube bucket instead of messing with trays, more so in the summer time. Too much cold and ice outside right now in Kansas. The sun is out this morning, but it is fake. We're at -7 even with the sun. Linda in Kansas

ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful! I'm trying to figure out if I should get a new fridge pro-actively. (mine is 25 years old) I do love my ice maker and water and wouldn't give it up. I think it's broken once during the 25 years, but I'm no good with ice trays. Many cubes seem to end up on the floor.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a 25 year old fridge that was still working I would treasure it. They seriously DO NOT make them to last more than 15 years anymore. The 30 year old freezer at our old home is still working. My daughter considered replacing it for a more energy efficient one, but decided not to take that risk.

ReplyDeleteYes, that's a nice n ew Whirlpool. I only miss an ice maker once or twice a year, so not having one is ok. The handle. Yes, they slip up and down. The delivery guys caan easily fix them.

ReplyDeleteAppliances are a pain. Our cabinets are vintage...1963 so they've made appliances different sizes since then. We will have a problem.

DeleteWhen we bought our last refrigeration we were limited because we wanted a white one and everything is stainless steel. It has an ice make inside but not a door dispenser for water and ice. So far no problem.

It is a beautiful fridge. I hope they can adjust that handle for you so you don't have to go through all the hassle that would be entailed in getting another one.

ReplyDeleteAhh the odessey ends with great results. So happy for you. Ice makers are an issue. My mom's ice maker went kaput (2nd replacement ) so I disconnected it, made ice cubes and used the working dispenser grinder to get chipped ice that way. It was a door dispenser so it was great. -BB
ReplyDeleteI, too, deliberately got a refrig without an ice maker when I last had to replace it. Have no regrets. Think life is running down for the refrig I have and no longer have a spare in the garage so may lose some food. Hope not. My current one sticks out a little from the one it replaced so will face that again. Had to have them switch opening to right side. Preferred this type over side by side. Hope you getvyour handles adjusted — seems strange they are different like that. Wonder if its deliberate for some reason?
