I wonder if everybody already knows about this egg slicing tool. It's really convenient for making an egg salad sandwich.
We also use this fun tool that we stick in with the eggs when they're cooking. It turns brown as your eggs cook. You pull your eggs out when the brown ring shows Soft (thin brown ring), Medium (thicker brown ring) or Hard (all the red turns brown).
I've read that you need to stick the eggs to be cooked in boiling water. I've always just stuck them in tap water temperature, brought it to a boil, simmer and haven't had a problem, but maybe this is helpful.
Once they're done, I take them out and stick the eggs immediately in ice water. That has always worked for me.
Just in case anybody is wondering, we like chopped sweet pickles with our egg salad.
Do you have a favorite way to make your egg salad sandwiches?

Neat tools now I feel like making an egg salad sandwich.
ReplyDeletei always use my egg slicer for egg salad. if you slice once and then turn it and slice again, the eggs are perfectly cut for egg salad.
ReplyDeleteI have an inexpensive egg cooker from Walmart that works perfectly. Once the alarm goes off, I stick them in ice water and they peel effortlessly.
ReplyDeleteI do add dill pickle relish to my egg salad. Not a fan of sweet pickle relish. I also put my cooked eggs in ice water.
ReplyDeleteI had one of those once, threw it away because it was always getting in the way and now miss it--think I'll head to Amazon and add one to my shopping cart. Oh and for the record, I make my egg salad with a couple shakes of dried dill weed. It makes all the difference. :^)
ReplyDeleteSometimes add pickle relish; other times add olives; sometimes a dab of mustard.
ReplyDeleteI had someone tell me that she learned to crack and peel hardboiled eggs by putting them in a jar with some water and shaking them well. They cracked all over and that helped the peel come off almost in one piece. I gave up on using the jar and now just make sure I crack them all over. works most of the time. Egg salad is one of our regular breakfast items.
I used to have hard boiled eggs that looked like the craters of the moon. I tried every method I read about. Then I got an instant pot. Expensive solution but it works. I use my pastry blender to chop eggs. Same principle as your little slicer. Mayo and a little mustard, that's my recipe. We love hard cooked eggs and pickled beets on our salads.
ReplyDeleteOoooh... pickled beets sound great with the eggs in a salad.
DeleteThat's neat!
ReplyDeleteThat's so handy. :)
ReplyDeleteI use my instapot to hard boil eggs or I put them in a pot of water on the stove, bring to a boil, then turn the heat off and let the eggs sit for 15 minutes. Either way they go in ice water when done. I find brown eggs much easier to peel although I have been told that is all in my head. I use a fork to smash my eggs, add mayo with a tab of mustard and a dribble of honey and chopped green olives. Don makes egg salad with tuna fish and onion added and it's really good in a sandwich or mixed with cold pasta as a salad.
ReplyDeleteI use the Instant Pot too. Brown eggs are better to peel because you can see any pieces of egg shell that are sticking to the boiled egg when you peel it. White shells on white eggs is hard to see.
Deletewe hate making boiled eggs because the shells fall apart. thanks for hint of using ice water-will try it!
ReplyDeleteI don't make egg salad very oftem, most at Easter to use up colored eggs. I like light mayo and Grey Poupon mustard, salt and pepper. No chunks for me.
ReplyDeleteTom has a soft boiled egg for breakfast most mornings. We always put eggs in tap water, bring them to a boil, and then turn the burner to lowest setting and set the timer. His are four minute eggs. I set the timer for 10 minutes for hard boiled eggs, then put them under cold water. To peel them I keep the egg under a trickle of cold water under the faucet. Also, for hard boiled eggs it's best not to use very fresh eggs. They are the hardest to peel.
I have both of those - got them from Daiso. I just love that store and I never leave without finding something that I just "have to have". I am not into egg sandwiches. I like to eat hard boiled eggs with a touch of salt.
ReplyDeleteI just finished making egg salad for dinner tonight. We like chopped olives and celery in ours and serve it in crackers. My mom used to have an egg chopper like yours
ReplyDeleteI have an egg slicer like that and use it frequently, although rarely do I make egg salad. I like slice hard boiled eggs on toast with some mayo and salt. Hubby puts hard boiled eggs in ice water and we rarely have a problem peeling them. I do think really fresh eggs are hardest to peel. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou remind me that I don't have enough egg salad sandwiches. I like them.
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought I invented that egg slicer trick! Great mnds.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the egg slicer but don't own one. I've never seen the other gadget. I shake the egg up and down to try to loosen the shell from the interior. It often works, but not always.
ReplyDeleteI have one of the slicers. I use sweet pickle relish too, and in my tuna salad. I just throw in some lite mayo and a bit of mustard, and a real light sprinkle of garlic powder. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteAn egg slicer is a handy tool.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
JB cannot have eggs, but I have one of these. I like onions in mine!
