Battle of the Birds: Round 3?

OK...

It looked like we won the battle of the birds building a nest on the roof ledge after Art put up double rows of bird spikes.

So here we were feeling quite proud of ourselves when mom walked in one morning and said the birds were doing it again.

Hunh?

But it was not in the same place. They'd given up on that site finally.

Now they were building a nest on the solar panel switch box on the other side of the house. Did they think we wouldn't notice? 😖

OK, Art removed the nesting material and put up a row of the bird spikes over the switch box. And just in case, he placed some rocks on the other switch boxes to make it an unstable nesting location.

Aggravation!

Maybe I should draw arrows pointing to where the trees are located.

Arrrghhh! 😝

  1. You may have won the war against the birds this time.

  2. They are like squirrels going after bird feeders relentless

  3. We have the word, birdbrain, for a reason. :)

  4. I was also going to mention birdbrain.

  5. always some challenge-whether you are a bird or human...lol!

  6. I think birds will be around long after we humans have gone extinct.

  7. You have to admire their determination and they are a challenge. Hope you have finally outwitted them.

  8. They certainly like your home. This round goes to you two.

  9. My goodness, they are relentless. You have to stay alert, that's for sure.

  10. They have stick-to-itiveness indeed. Our fencing material continues to repel them.

  11. Perhaps they think they are safer in enclosed spaces. You're certainly making sure they don't come back to your place! Good luck on finding the next place they decide to build a nest. :-)

  12. Had to laugh at the idea of you drawing arrows to the trees, Kay; well, you do make great signs! Gee I hope Art was being careful up there, that looks like it could be a bad fall.

    1. I try to get him to stay grounded, but he doesn’t always listen to me.

  13. I guess the word was out that you are wonderfully friendly people. Maybe just not to birds who want to take up residence. Good luck in your continuing campaign.

  15. Oh no! Drats! The spikes on the electric / solar box looks like it would scare off an electrician! What about a big bird house, similar to a purple martin's house, placed far away from your house, so they'll hang out in there? Maybe that's a bad idea: they'll hang out all around. With more spikes, you own house may look like a big silver porcupine! Linda in Kansas

    1. Mynahs and pigeons are pretty big birds. Our houses are so close to each other that I doubt my neighbors would be thrilled if we did that. 🥴

  16. Yes, arrows to the trees would be good. You have such nice red arrows.

  17. Our problem are the doves. They are the dumbest birds with hard to break habits. The entire generation of them think they have to nest above our window ledge and they come back after being shot with water, scared with flung limes, and even with fishing line installed over the window (actually the fishing line was installed too low). So far, only the deadly looking ceramic spikes that I made have worked.

My problem are those bulbuls. They eat every orchid bud as soon as they start to emerge on the stems. They eat orchid leaves and anything pretty. I do enjoy mynah birds because they have such personality, and I love those green mejiro (aka Big Eye) birds. I am in the process of putting up a bird net so the bulbuls can't get to my orchids under the kukui tree. It will look so unnatural but will do for now.

    1. We feel your pain. Those bulbuls are awful. They often bite off the orchid buds just to be mean.

  18. Ohhhh the birds!
We have squirrels. They dig up my backyard. They took the ginger root I placed under the soil. They cut my yellow flowers, and I don't know why! Whenever ther is a yellow flower, they have to cut the flower, chew and abandon.

    1. Aaahhh… so it’s not just my mother who puts ginger root into the ground for safe keeping.

  19. I trapped 5 squirrels and hauled off to a big country cemetery this week. There are still more. I must be vigilant. And..,I have a nasty opossum problem. I search what to do about them. Don’t give up is my advice as the pests multiply when you admit failure. Keep trying.

  20. This topic is strictly for the birds! Oh-h-h, I know ... Squirrels are running rampant here. They better not chew on wiring severing my Internet and phone land line again as they did a few years ago. At least the birds attempting nesting at the front of my house haven't returned since their nests were removed several ago.

  21. You just have to outlast them! They sure like your shelter, though. They know you are otherwise good people!!!
