Laminating Our COVID-19 Vaccination Card

One of my Zumba buddies texted me that Office Max/Depot was offering to laminate a COPY of our COVID-19 vaccination card for free. It’s nationwide. We went last week and it's true.

I was really surprised at the quality of the thick lamination. She copied both the front and the back of the card so it really looks like the original.

They were also selling plastic sleeves for the originals ($1.50) so... what the heck! We bought three of them.

I'm sure it's all unnecessary. But gosh! The cards seem so valuable (historic even) that we decided to do it anyway.

The girl who worked on our cards worked so hard and so carefully that I gave her one of my homemade masks too. 😁

Just for the fun of it!

POSTSCRIPT:
I see from comments that friends did not understand that Office Max/Depot DON’T laminate the original knowing boosters would be recorded on it. They make a COPY of the original and laminate the COPY.

Someone told me Staples also offers free lamination of COVID vaccinations.

  1. I've read advice to NOT laminate your original card, This way a provider will be able to add additional info on any booster shots that may be given in the future. Carol in Philadelphia, PA

    1. They make a copy of the original and only laminate the copy.

  2. They look like they did a very good job of it.

  3. I too read that cards need to be available for updates like booster shots. We didn't laminate ours.

  4. I would like mine laminated too. When we get boosters or more shots, I'm sure they can just give us a new card.

  5. we were told to take photos on our phone of the front and back so in case we loose them we have the info!

  6. I thought that I heard somewhere not to laminate your vaccine cards. I do like the idea of taking a picture of it, in case the original is lost.

    1. They laminate the COPY, not the original. We bought sleeves for the originals.

  7. I imagine being able to put them into a plastic sleeve is a good idea.

  8. I have pondered about laminating mine but for now, I just have it tucked away in my passport. I don't plan on using my passport anytime soon unfortunately, so it will stay pristine for now. I like the idea of preserving it for posterity though. I have a small box where I put a few things like that in and maybe one day, this will end up there.

  9. I've considered getting a slip cover for mine, in case the booster is needed later and the info has to be added to the card.

  10. I think a slip cover might be best. Heaven knows what the government will decide about them!!!

  11. I just returned from up the street a couple minutes ago. Most of the businesses (like the market, dentist, bakery) still require masks. Best Hardware doesn't, PROVIDED you have proof of vaccination, on your phone or a vaccine card. I had my card on me, but it's so hot & humid today, I wish mine WAS laminated. Plus, I want to be cool like Kay and her crew :^)

  12. All good info Kay! I made copies of the vaccine card for my home files, and to give my employer and docs. Then I just got a clear page protector and cut it to size to place the original. The original is with me in my purse in case some place wants evidence. I saw a blue wrist band that has the vaccine info downloaded, but I'm not sure I want to wear a band all the time. it took pics on my cell of both sides too. I found plastic sleeves for my Medicare card since it's also paper. Protects it from the jillion times I pull it out for doc offices. I'll be ready when boosters are needed too! Linda in Kansas

    1. They did such a good job with the copying of the original that it’s really hard to tell that it’s a copy that’s laminated. So far, I haven’t seen any store requiring the vaccination card. However, I’ve been to several local places (not counting Waikiki) where I see EVERYBODY is still masking up here. Nobody is trusting that new recommendation in my community so far.

  13. I folded mine in half and carry it in my wallet. I know it now has a crease in it, but it's handy and I can show it if anybody needs to see it. :-)

  15. Wish I had made a copy first before laminating. Didn't think about a booster. Hopefully they will give me a new one if I need a booster.

  16. Well, now you've got me thinking. as far as I know I don't have a vaccination card. Maybe I should check with the Micro Manage.

  17. I put my original away and carry a photo of it on my phone. That will get me into the vaccinated section of the stadium at the sounders match on Sunday. The sleeve is a good idea though.

  18. My card is tucked away also but I do have a photo of it on my phone. I like the sleeve idea too.

  21. Hey Kay! I put my Vaccine Card in with my passport in a safe place. My copy I put into a plastic sandwich bag and it is in my purse. Gotta use that plastic for good uses! :-)
