Sam's Club Self Service App

We do some of our shopping at Sam's Club on Tuesdays during that 7:00 Senior Hour. We feel safer with the limited amount of people.

Last Tuesday, one of the attendants approached us when we were doing the self check-out.

Yes, yes. I know you're looking at the not very healthy Coke Zero and Tostitos chips. However, I want you to give us credit for the giant bag of mixed vegetables, apples and blueberries (never mind that I'm going to make a few blueberry muffins for Art and mom).

Going back to the check-out. The attendant told us that for a $10 credit, we could open a Scan and Go app. That way, when the pandemic ends and we go shopping when there's a crowd, we can scan our own things with our cellphone, pay with the credit card that will be on file, get a QR code picture which they'll scan as you're leaving and you're out the door.

Sounded OK, so we did it. The attendant had a QR code thing on her lanyard which she then had us scan so we'd get the $10 credit.

Yes, she helped us quite a bit because... let's face it, we're not my techie son-in-law.

I looked up this Scan and Go thing on the Sam's Club website. But if you do it online, I wonder if you can get that $10 credit.

I saw in the Star Advertiser that of those Hawaii residents eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, 90% have received at least one dose. 😄

This is good news and it's hopeful that the day will come soon that we don't have to go shopping so early. 🤞

  1. The closest Sam's Club to us is 70 miles away. Walmart is the best we can do.

  2. I feel comfortable doing online shopping and paying on my computer but very uncomfortable using my phone. This wouldn't be anything I'd try. 7 am shopping? I"m rarely awake at that time.

  3. 90% is excellent now let's hope the tourists are too.

  4. Congrats on the vaxxed Hawaiians number! Hope everyone gets their second and booster shots.
Earlier, I mustered myself out of bed and went to an early Senior Sam's Club shopping. There was a line down the sidewalk to get in. People RAN to get to the toilet paper section. These days, when they've had nobody at a human-staffed register, I've been forced to use the self-checkout. I've seen people showing their phones to the exit door worker, but I'm not comfy mixing my phone with orders and apps. I'd hate to make an error! Linda in Kansas

  5. I walk, so my grocery shopping is done as needed, and consists of what I can carry by hand or in my backpack. That means I'm in the grocery store two or three times a week.

Fortunately it's five blocks from home.

  6. I miss Sam's clubs. We are too small to have one. I don't have a smart phone-no cell service where I live--so I couldn't do that slick buying.
    Thrilled with your 90%. Wow.

  7. That's a wonderful percentage. There was a segment on 60 Minutes about QR code. I believe. They said not to use them.

  8. That is an excellent percentage. We're in the low 70s here but higher in the Seattle area. That's an easy and convenient way to scan. I feel like I'm already so dependent on my phone and getting more so every day.

  10. Glad to know you have such a high percentage of islanders who are vaccinated. However, it's all those tourists you get who are not vaccinated that can cause trouble. I stay in our zip code as much as possible because we have a high vaccination rate, 77%, far above the city's 50% rate.

  11. It seems that things are improving Kay. I'm certainly ready! And wish you folks all the best.

  12. We don't do Sam's Club. We do shop once in a while at Costco. We would never make it to 7:00 shopping. We have been sleeping in later and later except when we have schedules that make us get up and get going sooner. When I went to Costco last week I did not go during senior hours. Covid exposure didn't concern me but I didn't like all of the carts in my way. But senior hours at Costco are from 9:00 to 10:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I can probably manage that.

  13. Oh, I can't wait until we don't have Covid to worry about. However, did you see the newspaper the other day about more people have died from the flu this year, more than Covid deaths? Stay safe and well and keep on doing what you are doing!

  14. Glad you're still being careful. We went out for our first since-Covid, indoor dining experience today.

  15. What a wonderful idea! We don't have a Sam's Club but do shop at CostCo. I hope they follow suit! We will be getting our booster shot soon, and probably a regular flu shot.

  16. I've now had my booster and my flu shot, but I am still nervous about being around others whose vaccination history I don't know. We are still having a high number of Covid cases, and deaths, in my county. I don't know anything about Sam's Club but do shop at Costco.

  17. I'm afraid some of us non techies will have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the tech business model.

  18. I loathe the self checkouts! I hear you about lines, but we don't go into big stores.
Good for all getting their vaccines.

  19. That is a good percentage for the vaccination.

We do have scan and shop here in the UK, but I prefer doing it the old fashioned way!

    All the best Jan
