It all started after lunch when Art called me downstairs to say he couldn't find his cellphone. He'd pinged it with his Apple watch, but just couldn't locate it. Since... ummm... his hearing isn't the best I told him to ping it again and I would locate it with my more fine tuned 😁 hearing ability... I can't taste or smell, but I can definitely hear things.
So he pinged it. It sounded far away so I went back upstairs to look for it, but I could tell it wasn't there. It sounded much farther away. It had to be downstairs.
I suspected it was somewhere in the vicinity of the kitchen so I told him to ping it once more. When he did, it sounded like it was on the other side of the kitchen. When we moved there and had him ping it again, it sounded like it was where we'd come from. He even looked in the fridge. We looked in all the drawers and cabinets.
It sounded rather like it was on the other side of something so I wondered if it was outside on the patio. However, when he pinged it again while outside, it sounded like it was inside.
At this point I told him I should call him from my iPhone because it would be louder which I did. I called his phone and it still sounded far away. We kept walking around and around the kitchen.
He then went upstairs to get his hearing aid which he'd put away because he thought at one point that it was pinging his hearing aids and making it harder to hear his phone.
Well... While he was gone, I called his phone again and then wondered where else it could be that would cause it to be muffled. I looked at the trash can in front of me.
No......
It couldn't be.
No.....😆I opened the lid and called the phone again.
Dang! It was ringing loud and clear.
I started emptying the trash knowing he'd thrown away his broken blood pressure monitor earlier in the day.
Art came down then and I had to tell him to get another trash bag so I could carefully remove the trash and transfer it.
Well... of course, I ended up taking out all the trash before finding it at the very, very bottom. I almost didn't see it because I'm farsighted and can't see things that are up close very well and his cellphone is black like the trash liner. Art, on the other hand is near sighted and saw it before I did.
Sheesh! 🙄
Don't we make a pair?
It always sounds like you Art are a very good pair, you work well together. I think all electronic products need a pinger. Here we are bad about losing the small, shiny black TV remote. The last time we lost it we couldn't find it and my husband gave up and bought a new one. After the new one arrived, of course, we found the old one. We decided to keep the new one, too,for the next time we lose one of them. That super shiny black slick finish that so many electronics have is like a cloaking device. We always have to use a flashlight to search, and even our little old dog searches along with us even though he is very old, deaf and has a bad cataract in one eye and has no idea what we may be looking for, maybe he thinks we are searching for food.
ReplyDeleteHaha--between the two of you make a fully functioning sensory being. Good thing you have each other.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if and when you would call his phone. Well done, you pair. Sue is also far sighted, and I am near, but my far is better than her near if you know what I mean. It’s not bad at all, just not quite as good as hers.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, Olga beat me to it. It is great that each others lacks are the others strength. Perfect team.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that the story had a happy ending.
ReplyDeleteToo, too funny. Now the rest of the story has to be from Art telling us how it got in the bottom of the trash bag. He must have some recollection about his movements that lead to that happening.
ReplyDeleteAt least you found the phone. I can ask my Alexa to find my phone and she rings it and it ends up in some really strange places. Once I looked all over and the phone was in my bra.
ReplyDeleteWow! That could have been much worse if trash day had been near. I have never tried pinging but I have to call my wife's phone all the time to locate where she last left it. She evidently isn't tethered to it like I am. Mine is either in my pocket or on the charger next to my pillow.
ReplyDeleteI read this twice just to make sure. You two have a very unique match-up of abilities. SO lucky you found it. May I suggest a bright or light colored case for Art's phone? (I LOVE my Otterbox light aqua case. They have rubbery edges, so they don't slide around or out of your pocket. I've used Otterbox for all of my phones and they haven't cracked a screen any time I've dropped the phone.) Or, you could put his phone in one of those leather trucker wallets with the big chain that attaches to a belt...
ReplyDelete(Let me know if you actually consider an Otterbox case. There are other points about getting one.)
My nephew just dropped his cell in the ocean while crabbing off the shores of Oregon. He called with his wife's phone, but the crabs wouldn't answer to come jump in the boat.

Such a great team. My phone is black (and slippery) and once it laid overlooked for most of the day on a black table. That'the only thing I miss about my old landline, being able to call myself and find it.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness how?
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing story. I've had several things in my hand and have thrown important stuff into the garbage instead of the actual trash. No cell phone yet though!
ReplyDeleteA wonderful pair too. At least you found it Bravo.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite pairs! Never a dull moment!
ReplyDeleteNow that you found it, I would throw it away! Anyway, you two make a fine team; Kay you're the yin to Art's yang ;^)
ReplyDeleteUuummm…if I threw away his cellphone, my Yang would be furious with me. It’s his lifeline to the world 😲
ReplyDeleteI thought maybe it was going to turn out to be in his pocket. Maybe you're not THAT bad off. I second what Olga said.
ReplyDeleteAnd I confess it sort of sounds like what goes on here at our house sometimes :-)
... at least you found the phone :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Searching for misplaced articles is very stressful . Good you found it.
ReplyDeleteNow that I live alone, I must be very careful where I leave the phone. No one to call it for me.
ReplyDeleteMessy job, but at least it was found before the trash went out!
ReplyDeleteI dropped mine in the bathtub today 😭
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I call each other when one loses his/her phone, and it always works. Nobody ever thought of how important it is to have two phones for a situation like this! Glad you found it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I misplace my cell phone, I have Alexa from my Echo call it.That usually works.
ReplyDeletewhat luck to find it!
ReplyDeletei have never lost or broken a phone, luck i guess!!
