I'm always happy to receive flowers, but it requires a lot of care in Hawaii to keep it fresh. You have to change the water almost daily. And then... too soon, they die. So my initial happiness at receiving them is with the sad knowledge that they won't last long.
Last year (or was it the year before?), one of my cousins gave me some blue roses. I must say, I've never received blue roses before. I just knew they had to be preserved so I dried them in our shower stall.
However, just having dried blue roses didn't make the best of presentations.

They don't look bad for dried flowers though!
ReplyDeleteI guess you're right about the patriotism. 😀
ReplyDeleteI'm ,perhaps, one of few people who love flowers mainly in their natural setting - the soil..
ReplyDeleteKay, you give new meaning to the expression "waste not, want not". They look lovely.
ReplyDeleteHow invisibly/it changes color/in this world,/the flower/of the human heart. Ono no Komachi
ReplyDeleteThey can last a week or more
ReplyDeletein my area, vodka helps to keep them fresher, longer...i don't know if that would help you!! it's nice that you dry them, i use to but i had too many, now i just keep the pedals from special ones!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting drying method. I used to pluck the petals from roses given to me and put them in a little basket/bowl. They dried pretty quickly there. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteLin says I'd rather have a rose bush to plant or other flowers that will keep on giving!
ReplyDeleteNever tried drying. You managed a nice arrangement. Nice way to give them longer appeal.
ReplyDeleteThose look great for dried flowers. Roses don't last long at all although carnations make up for that!
ReplyDeleteMakes me wish I had blue roses! Very nice.
ReplyDeleteCommercially grown roses do dry well. I have a few around. Yours are pretty.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. Nothing lasts forever. Let's enjoy it Kay
ReplyDeleteRoses are such a lovely flower.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
What a nice post. Thank you so much for sharing this, Kay. It is very interesting! Wishing you well, dear friend! Have a wonderful Wednesday night!
ReplyDeleteI've never thought of drying my flowers. They came out looking so nice.
ReplyDeleteThe flower arrangement looks nice.
ReplyDeleteThey look pretty.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about this drying system and how it works!
ReplyDeleteI just hang it upside down in a dark but ventilated area and wait until it's totally dry. I worked really well in Illinois. It's a little more dicey in Hawaii where it can be humid.
DeleteIf I have roses I save the petals after they die and put them with others I've kept over the year. They smell nice, too.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love the flowers! I compost them outside and they go back to the soil.
ReplyDeleteI’ve never seen blue roses!
ReplyDeleteKay, I dry roses all the time! I love the old fashioned look they have once dried. I think yours look beautiful!
