It happened some time before and during Thanksgiving. With all the cooking and preparing for the family Thanksgiving pot luck, I somehow injured my knee. I don't know if it was because I was standing so much over the sink or crouching down to get baking dishes. It just started hurting and wouldn't go away.
I finally looked for some sort of leg brace that I remembered we had and put it on.I don't know who we got it for (Art says it wasn't him) but this is Hawaii and the elastic had deteriorated or stretched out and wouldn't stay up when I walked.
Sooo... I ordered a different kind of leg brace on Amazon.
OK... First problem. I put it on upside down.
I saw the directions on the box the following day and turned it around, but I had problems with the diagonal crisscrossing of the straps.
It must be my aging brain. Sheesh!
At that point, I decided to take some ibuprofen.
But then, would you believe I found another knee brace in the closet? When I looked it up on Amazon, I saw it was cheaper than the one I bought. 🙄
And this one was much easier to put on. No crisscrossing straps. And I think it's more comfortable.
Art's comment: "Have you considered the fact that the ibuprofen is making you think this is the better brace?"
He wants me to send a message to my doctor for PT.
Maybe.
OK... I'll send him a message to see if it's necessary.
POSTSCRIPT:
I just got a call from my doctor's office. I have to go in next week to have him talk to me about treatment.

I have problems with both knees. For me, it's the mileage. It didn't help that I fell in the market's parking lot a couple of weeks ago and skinned my right knee. It is nearly healed now but still weak. It's the mileage now! And this is Margie..not Anonymous!
ReplyDeleteOkay, Don has been complaining about heel pain at least as long. First his left, now both all of a sudden. He has been saying
ReplyDelete"I have to call the doctor" almost as long. He finally did, yesterday. You "Tough it out" people!!
Olga, tell him "arch supports".
DeleteWe are all aging. In 2018 I had my left thumb fixed. Now my right thumb needs the same fix plus repair of carpal tunnel. I'm scheduled for March 31st surgery. I know what to expect with the healing and PT but unlike 2018 when we lived in Columbia, MD and I could just go down the elevator to the rehab department, I'll have to drive 20-30 minutes for PT multiple times in the week. It will be a memorable spring and summer.
ReplyDeleteI've got several versions of those braces. Back when I worked a lot on hard concrete, my knee hurt all the time and they were the only thing to bring me relief. When I stopped working and avoiding standing still long periods of time on hard surfaces, (moving is okay) all that went away and those braces now gather dust in a drawer. Also back when I was wearing them, ibuprofen was my friend.
ReplyDeleteOdd thing is that I recently remembered having a kne brace when SHauna was having problems. The other odd thing is that it isn’t what I pictured in my head.
ReplyDeleteMy knees have taken injuries down through the years. I tend to feel it at the coldest time of the year.
ReplyDeleteFor me it was falling on the ice, on two separate occasions, on different knees. Now I just cannot run. Take care!
ReplyDeleteKay, your leg definitely looks sexier in the Brac. I'd stick with that one. 😉
ReplyDeleteKnee problems seem to be de rigueur for our age group. John has a replaced one and now his other one is hurting. Knees and backs are the weak spots of the body! (and they get overused)
ReplyDeleteLin Floyd says life is always full of little surprises...
ReplyDeleteMaybe get it looked at
ReplyDeleteYou can also walk in to Access Ortho. Great doctors like Dr. Kan and Dr. Blum running this walk in clinic.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. My doctor at Tripler is free so I must start there. Probably x-rays and stuff... Thank you for your advice about All Access Ortho. I shall keep that in mind if I have an option on PT.
DeleteArt pretty smart. Just add the SM lol. I sure hope your knee feels better dear
ReplyDeleteOur poor knees and feet work so hard for us. Hoping for a full recovery for you soon.
ReplyDeleteYour husband sounds like a very wise man.
ReplyDeleteI have a drawer full of knee braces. The best one I've found is called "Cho-pat." I am not needing one at present because I'm much less intense hikes these days. I look forward to hearing what the doctor decides to do.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you are having knee problems.
ReplyDeleteThe postscript is the best plan. I would like seeing that leg brace on upside down!!!
ReplyDeleteAs I sit here at the computer, I am wearing my "unloader" knee brace, which is holding my knee together while I prepare for hip surgery. Falling apart is such fun.
ReplyDeleteWell Drats! Dr. Art is wise. Be sure and take all of your braces to your appointment. If you qualify, I hope you can find a nearby Physical Therapist. They might order an MRI if it's a tendon or ligament problem. You're joining all of the football guys with all of their injuries. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteWill do. I'm not looking forward to physical therapy, but they have always helped me with all my physical difficulties.
DeleteGoodness! Our daughter lives close to the Gulf coast, here in Texas. Anything, like braces made with elastic or rubber, she stores in Ziploc bags...stops the deterioration.
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon!
hugs
Donna
Like you I will look for any cure I can find at home to keep from having to go to PT.
