We were preparing dinner the other night in the microwave and toaster oven.
And then I heard a fizzle.
The microwave had stopped working. I had this vision of having to now buy a new microwave and toaster oven.
Art checked the electrical breaker but nothing was tripped.
Oh nooo.... We have to buy a new toaster oven, a new microwave oven AND hire an electrician because obviously, something was wrong with the electrical wiring behind the walls. I'm racking up the cost in my head.
Arrrghhhh!
Uh oh...
I must have used this wrong cord to plug in the two appliances when we bought them. 😳
Oops!
That was maybe 15 years ago.
OK, after resetting the GFCI outlet we plugged both appliances into the wall.
Phew!
Everything is working again.
We didn't have to buy a new microwave or toaster oven. We didn't have to hire an electrician.
And I learned a valuable lesson. 😅
Good grief, Kay! Was the lesson learned that you shouldn't ever use an extension cord with high heat producing appliances? Also that the microwave and toaster oven shouldn't be plugged into the same outlet? I'm sorry this sounds rude, but maybe you should consult an electrician because I do think right now you are lucky to only be out an extension cord. Don't be like me and learn these things the hard way!
ReplyDeleteYes, my husband is an electrical contractor and I hear him tell his clients the same thing…no extension cords for those particular appliances.
DeleteI have to agree with Olga...you were very lucky to have not had a fire. There have been many such reports in the local news lately, people who have plugged too many things into extension plugs. The chance of a fire is very great. Our homeowner's insurance company has advised us that we really need to rewire our almost 50-year house because only houses built within the the last 10 years have the ample electrical wiring to adequately handle the appliances we all own. We did have a new 220 circuit put in with the installation of the new HVAC system.

ReplyDeleteThose are both big draw appliances. Perhaps they should be on different outlets or circuits. I'm glad you are okay!
