I retired from teaching 1st grade in an Illinois public school in 2004. There was a group of teachers that I became very good friends with. I don't remember when we started going out regularly to lunch or dinner to just relax, talk about school things and our lives.
When I left Illinois to return to Hawaii, we formed a chat group on our cellphones so we could keep "talking" to each other.
There was one interesting thing that came up in one of the chats recently. Someone said they enjoyed watching Elsbeth although her husband didn't like it, but really loved Reacher.
According to AI, Elsbeth is autistic. I thought she was just quirky. The only thing I didn't always care for is that you know pretty much from the start "who done it." But then, that's OK. I enjoy watching her figure it out. Art doesn't care for that structure.
Maybe we teachers identify working with children who have different needs.
Anyway...
I remember the Jack Reacher movies when Tom Cruise played the title character. However, when I read one of the Reacher books by Lee Child, I realized that Alan Ritchson is more in keeping with Reacher's physique.
I only read one of the Reacher books because it made me too tense to fall asleep. I usually read books before going to sleep.
Anyway, the other teachers in our group texted that they also loved Elsbeth but didn't care for Reacher (on Prime) although their husbands loved it. I didn't even know Season 3 of Reacher was being aired.
And then my son-in-law texted us that he was loving Reacher and we should check it out. Soooo.... we've been tuning in. My daughter? Nope.
Art really enjoys it and I'm actually OK with it. But I distract myself by texting friends on my iPad because the story line with the tense music stresses me out if I don't have a distraction.
Have you seen either shows? What do you think?

My cousin’s daughter is good friends with Carrie Preston.
ReplyDeleteKay of Musings: Wow! That’s so much fun!!
Delete'REacher' is popular in this house, though not necessarily with me. I haven't seen much of 'Elsbeth' but do like her character, in the same way I liked 'Monk.'
ReplyDeleteI don’t know Elsbeth, but we have watched the first two seasons of Reacher. It’s silly, and I don’t love it, but we’ll likely watch it sometime when we run out of alternatives. We have recently been watching ‘The Brief’ on Acorn and have been quite liking it. It’s a British law series. We’re almost done that, so we’ll see what’s next. I don’t tink it will be Reacher yet.
ReplyDeleteI have simple tv with an antenna, no cable subscriptions. Watching old shows like Hazel and The Waltons is less stressful. I do enjoy the late night reruns of Major Crime, and Rizzoli & Isles shows but I think that's because I like Anatomy & Physiology. Cheaper too. PBS is on my watch list too for All Creatures Great and Small. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of either one. We don't stream anything and only watch a small number of television shows that we record and watch at our convenience. We really have so little time for television.
ReplyDeleteI guess I wasn't aware of the Reacher television series though I think I saw two movies, one with Cruise and one with someone else. I have heard about the Elsbeth series but haven't watched it.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of 'em.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby for sure is a Reacher fan
ReplyDeleteI'm with Art and don't really care for the structure where we know the perp from the beginning. I have watched some series with that format though and enjoyed them. It's difficult to keep up the suspense when we already know whodunnit. I used to enjoy the Reacher books until the author started writing them with his son. As for the show, it's poorly written and acted but full of action which is exciting for many people. (not so much me)
ReplyDeleteNeither. Sorry, no data.
ReplyDeleteWe do like Elsbeth... and I consider her 'quirky' too. Don't watch Reacher (although DH might). Both really like High Potential - have you seen that one?
ReplyDeleteKay of Musings: Yes, I have and I really like it too. 😁
DeleteSince I don't have "real" tv, I only watch Netflix, Disney, and sometime Amazon and Apple if I get free months. I binge watch the series and when I go to sleep at night, I feel like kicking myself (very hard to do) because of how much time I wasted and left my house a mess instead of using that time to create stuff, organize, and be productive. However, one show (on Apple) that I could watch over and over again is "Ted Lasso". It started off like it was such a silly show with actors that I don't recognize and it became my favorite series ever.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen either one and I have no intention of watching.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen either of these and have no plans to.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday and weekend wishes.
All the best Jan
Tom and I both like Elspeth. We have not watched Reacher. I see that it is on a streaming channel. I guess that's why.
ReplyDeleteAnyway we have enough violent shows we watch already. We like Quirky Elspeth because there is very little violence. I would not have characterized her as autistic though.
Hi Kay, I am another TV viewer using over the air antenna. I have seen some of the Elspeth shows and liked them enough to try and watch when I can. Sometimes I do fall asleep, though it's because of me and not the show. Mostly I watch PBS and some of the channels that show older reruns in series, sort of like binge watching. Just not new shows. I have never seen any of the Reacher programs.

Kay of Musings: Actually we watch a LOT of the shows on PBS as well. We record and watch when we can.
DeleteI haven’t watched Elspeth yet but will make a point to. I have watched Reacher but am not drawn to it as much as other shows.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of the Reacher books so was pretty pleased to see the show. This Reacher is a hunk so that is why I like it, plus he has to always get out of a situation.
ReplyDeleteElsbeth is our favorite, we just love her quirkiness. I didn't know her character was supposed to be autistic. She is odd, colorful, and smart all great things for a show.
I adore Elspeth!!!!! Never watched or read Reacher.
ReplyDeleteSo far, enjoying Elspeth and her "quirkiness", no experience regarding Reacher. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen either 📺
ReplyDeleteNever seen Reacher, but I enjoyed Elspeth. We no longer stream the channel I had been watching it on, but I do see that it is available on Paramount +. I will have to get back to it. Tim doesn't mind graphic violence. I just hate it.
