My Kauai cousins and I have been texting each other regularly through the years. They are as upset as my friends and I here on Oahu about Trump and Musk's many drastic cuts since coming into office.
They told me last night that they had gotten their posters ready for another protest rally that was happening called "Hands Off!"
The last big march Art and I participated in was in 2017 when we marched for Science.
I hadn't even heard about this one, but I'm so excited and wish I could join them.
They texted me photos of their posters. I was so impressed by their art and creativity that I asked their permission to share them with you.
My cousins tell me their friends will also be participating in the rally.
This is reminding me of the protests we experienced in the 60's.
Maybe that's why Trump is making sure protests are banned on college campuses.
I need to start thinking about making a poster soon.
POSTSCRIPT:
I wasn't planning on posting this today, but I think I will while we're on the topic.
This was from the editorial page of our Sunday Star Advertiser yesterday.
All my Canadian blogger buddies know how I feel about their beautiful country and their super nice citizens. They know how terrible we feel about all that's happening.

Unfortunately, I think our government has no choice but to touch the first three entitlements listed on that first poster. Those first three along with annual interest payments on our current debt and defense spending make up our ENTIRE budget every year. So even if they got rid of every single department and program other than defense, we would only JUST balance the budget. So whining about the previous cuts and not wanting cuts to those three entitlements is like the classic saying, "wanting your cake and eatting it to". I personally feel the only way this is going to be solved is to let everyone get their way until the country goes bankrupt and forced into severe austerity measures and every program is just shuttered until we pay down our debt. That will make these days of Trump seem like a walk in the park in comparison.
ReplyDeleteKay of Musings: Thank you for your comment, Ed. I really do appreciate another point of view. I confess I’m not really super knowledgeable with economics or politics. I don’t know how Clinton was able to balance the budget. But I know I don’t like a whole lot of the cuts that are happening and his dismantling of the Board of Education and especially the severe cuts to the EPA.
DeleteI think America could save a lot of money by making your president pay for his weekend trips to Mar-a-Lago. They cost taxpayers millions of dollars!
DeleteOne of the reasons I liked and voted for Clinton both times, the only president I have voted for that actually made it into office, is that he didn't just tax the rich, but he cut spending significantly. Many forget that he cut Welfare spending and just remember his big spending cuts in the Defense department. He also presided over a period of time with great economic growth which worked in his favor. The one big drawback to his economic policies was that he deregulated the finance industry which as we know, led to the great recession in the latter part of that decade, caused us to put stricter measures in that are now being undone by the current administration. Funny how we are returning full circle but on the opposite party side this time around. Overall, I still think Clinton-omics were some of the best financial policies our country has had. Since then, our deficits have only ballooned and the last three presidents, Obama, Trump and Biden all set records for the biggest deficits. I'm not optimistic that Trump and Elon, even with all their cutting, won't be on that list again just because of the economic damage they are doing making those cuts in no subtle fashion will decrease our economic tax revenue significantly. Time will tell I guess.
DeleteLove the posters. Wish the federal judges were more consistent in their rulings to stop facism. A Hawaii-Canada province sounds good. I was wondering if Alaska would want to become a Canadian province. I do wish we could stop the anti-Constitution orders tRump is doing. It's horrid to retract a visa just for a peaceful protest. ReplyDeleteKay of Musings: And he’s talking a 3rd term? 😖
DeleteThat's a nice variety of signs.
ReplyDeleteIt is chilling that Trump is trying to draw up an executive order called the Rogue Justices Act, which would make it illegal for any judge to push back against his executive orders. In other words, he is trying to remove the people's power to protest what he's doing.
ReplyDeleteGood creative posters. Carry on.
ReplyDeleteWe feel your pain too -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteWhether Trump likes it or not, people are going to protest.
ReplyDeleteI am sick about this and about all the people who paid into SS and depend on it. Our government isn't working for us, it's against us and our well-being on every front from the medical (RFK Jr) to the humanitarian. Has the military budget also been cut?
ReplyDeleteKay of Musings: I believe the Veteran’s are having some cuts. I don’t know YET if there will be an impact on our medical plan though since Art falls under a different category of retired Public Health.
DeleteWe support all you good Americans in your resistance against the orange menace and his minions. They cannot overthrow democracy, mushyh as they might try.
ReplyDelete*much*
ReplyDeleteThe USA will never let go of Hawaii - too strategically located and we have Pearl Harbor.
ReplyDeleteI usually don't listen to the radio at all but one morning I was tuned in to Michael W. Perry and he had a totally opposite point of view of how Trump is doing. He said inflation is being controlled, gas prices lowering, etc. I didn't listen to much of it but he probably had a lot of irate calls in that morning.
I can't march but we are looking into a small rally gathering near where we meet for breakfast.
ReplyDeleteI would respect the idea of some budget cuts if they were being done after careful study and not the way they are being done with no regard for consequences.
We are attending a Hands Off Rally on the 5th. I'm going to repurpose my Harris Walz lawn sign into a Hands Off sign.
ReplyDeleteThe marches are in all 50 states. We are having one pretty close to me and I plan to go! It is supposed to rain so I am bundling up and making a water proof poster. There is no proof President Musk's budget cuts are actually saving any money. Actually the National Debt will be increasing by leaps and bounds and will be so much worse once they pass even more tax cuts.
ReplyDeleteI really feel we are headed to a depression. And to war.
I am encouraged that people like yourselves are cheering for Canada. Thank you for your protests.
ReplyDeleteI am cheering for Americans who have paid into social security, along with employers who put in their share. The oligarchs aren't paying taxes. They pay accountants instead. They are picking on people who can least afford to lose their social security.
The tax breaks your president put in in his first term were shameful.
In Canada, we are putting the money collected by tariffs into a fund for employers. We have free healthcare, supports for the disabled, dental plans for them. We have to look after one another.
The interim solution is resitance, noise, demonstratons and the ballot box at every opportunity.
ReplyDeleteWe here in Canada would welcome Hawaii with open arms.... as long as you brought the palm trees and the beaches and the sunshine with you! Good luck with the poster making and the protest marches, but I don't know that it will worry Trump at all.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure that you would be the smallest province - check out Prince Edward Island. You certainly would get a lot of 'snowbirds', the name we use for people who go to the southern states in winter. I love this idea, truly. I was lucky enough to vacation, once, on Big Island with my daughter and a friend of hers. We fell in love with all of it, coffee plantations, volcanos, scuba, it was wonderful. You can become part of Canada, in my opinion, any time you want to secede from the weirdness of the 40 states.
ReplyDeleteGreat posters. I wish I had the ability to to and march. All I can do is sit here and fume. Like the volcano, eh?
How this 🍊💩 has any support is beyond me...
