Everybody we hang out with are absolutely aghast at everything Trump has been doing. I know Canada and Europe are totally ticked off with what's been going on in such a short time. Imagine another 3 years and 9 months.
I'm remembering traveling through Canada and having to tell people we did not vote for George W. Bush. We still remember one Canadian Bed and Breakfast we were staying at where the wife was serving us breakfast and the husband was going out on an errand. He stopped to chat briefly, but when we said we did NOT vote for Bush, he stayed almost an hour just to talk. It's a fond memory. We really love all the Canadians we've met in Canada and when we travel.
I've told people that you have to be careful not to look at the road because Canadians will stop to make sure you're not planning to cross. Uuumm... You won't find that true in the U.S.
Anyway, so I was wondering. I know there are MAGA hats and MAGA t-shirts. I've seen some pretty disgusting ones where a woman was wearing a t-shirt saying "Trump Can Grab My Pussy." Seriously? Seriously?!?
Like I said... I was wondering. Could there be Anti-Trump t-shirts. OMG! TONS of them on Amazon. And they're so clever.
I jokingly told Art that if I'm traveling anywhere other than Russia and North Korea, I should buy this t-shirt.
And then I saw this political cartoon in the Star Advertiser and I'm thinking... maybe I SHOULD buy it.
The tee shirts are good. We feel so sorry that orange 47 is doing so much damage.

DeletePerhaps because I'm in a very small minority in the political middle, I have never understood the need to advertise my politics. I get beat up by both sides who assume I'm with the other side! My biggest hang-up with political shirts is that they are designed to insult a segment of the population by over simplifying complex situations into clever wording which just seems wrong to my moral upbringing. I would rather try to lift people up by finding common ground rather than lowering them to the level of pond scum, deservedly or not.
ReplyDeleteSaying that, I do find a lot of the Trump signage along our roads to be a lot more disgusting that I have ever seen from the Democrat side... yet. But that too will come if each side continues to insult and denigrate the other side. Those shirts above show it is already starting to happen.
Kay of Musings: And yet…. When you think about it… Where and why has this kind of language and denigration started from? Why did it devolve to this kind of name calling and anger?
DeleteAlthough Trump took it to the next level, he didn't start it. I saw it starting with social media around President Obama's first run for the Whitehouse and gradually getting worse. I also blame social media for why it has devolved into name calling and anger. People express things on blogs and other social media platforms that I never see expressed openly in person to person contact, at least with those I have contact with. The yard signs and t-shirts are fairly new and in my opinion, a sign that it is getting worse, and likely will continue to get worse. Both sides have people that are casting the proverbial stones as fast as they can and more and more people are jumping in and helping.
DeleteI should add, it is already devolving into violence. Look at Jan 6th, two attempted assassinations and recent Tesla arsons. Unless we as a population decide to consciously take a step back and be nicer to those whom we have disagreements, I don't think it is a stretch to say another civil war may be in our future.

ReplyDeletePrior to his first term I was such a nice person. I would not share a meme on Facebook if the site posting it had anything inappropriate or even suggestive in the name. I was a Sunday School teacher and was mindful of my students (now in their 20's) who might read it. Then the PxxxY comment came out. On video where we saw and heard it. And that opened the flood gates. The majority of the schools around me have political flags with the F word hanging where school children can see them. And my language now includes words I did't even know before.

Me too!! I hope there are many others that also feel this way and will have the courage to speak up. I can no longer pretend that this debacle is "just politics".He is purposely demolishing our Government. He has put Bullies and thugs in cabinet positions It will take years (If Ever) to recover the trust of our allies and friends around the world. I will leave with this. I decided a long time ago that I will not wear a T shirt with any kind of text on the front (or back) and certainly not something insulting to either side in this Trump led debacle. Very easy to spread hatred and insults through text and signs and memes and other forms of communication saying nasty things that we would never say to anyone face to face.

ReplyDeleteGot into an elevator at Safeway and man stated talking anti-Trump to us strangers. He said he's actively fighting Trump everywhere. Must be really bad with strangers talking like this. I really wanted to know the ratings he has and I was gutted to see that as of yesterday he has a 53% approval rating. It explained that it's mostly support of his anti Immigration stance. As I'm online I see a huge divide as many being anti-black, anti-BLM, and of course immigrants. Before no one said these racist things but now they're wide open and being supported. I have my own thoughts on this but I can't substantiate any of it but many feel we've gone too left and this is the backlash. This covers a whole spectrum of views but I think it started with Dylan Mulcahy and the Bud Light debacle. Bb
