Stuck Fitbit Charge 6

I bought a Fitbit Charge 2 many years ago and used it especially to record my sleep. I used an Apple watch in the daytime. But since I've lost way too much weight lately after installing Invisalign to get my teeth back where it should after my front tooth snapped off, my wrist got too thin to hold a big Apple Watch. I therefore handed down my Apple Watch to my granddaughter who is happily using it at college.

I'm now using my Fitbit Charge 2 for the whole day. It obviously doesn't do what the Apple Watch could, but I don't care.

When I first got that Charge 2, the color of the font was weird so they sent me a second one.

Art's Charge 2 died so he got a Charge 6 a little over a year ago.

But then his Charge 6 suddenly developed another problem. Notice the difference between the Charge 2 and Charge 6.

For a sleeker look, I suppose, Fitbit installed a shorter button.

Well his button is stuck inside the watch. It won't retract.

He's tried alcohol and then WD40 and I don't know what else to loosen it.

You can see from this photo that I tried to pry it out with a needle, but no luck. It's stuck! He's looked online and nothing helps.

The warranty is 2 months over so the Fitbit is dead.

He's now using my extra Charge 2 (to chart his sleep) and I don't think I'll ever replace it with a 6 no matter how good the reviews might be. 😏

  1. The button in the FITbit doesn’t FIT right. It isn’t very FIT for the task.

  2. Judging from this write up, others that I have read, and that of my wife, those things just aren't engineered to last a long time which for the price, is a problem for me and I guess why I don't own one. My watch is probably 20 years old and still ticking away, relying on my own movements to keep it charged up and no buttons to press.

  3. So often new isn't better. What a pain.

  4. Technology is great. Until it isn't.

  5. Oh that is annoying. Unless someone disassembles it and checks it out that way (but these things aren't built to be taken apart easily) - what a bummer!

  6. Hmmmmm, there was a day when you didn't wear such a watch. The sun still comes up and usually has those beautiful sunsets. I got a watch that was supposed to read glucose. Did for a couple of times, then didn't. Bad service, bad product, $125 into the trash. If you have trouble getting to sleep try an orange light bulb at your bedside table. Night nurses do that to get to sleep when they get home after a night shift. I was surprised how well it helped. My Seiko plain nurse watch with the second hand has worked for 25 years. Don't lose too much weight! Linda in Kansas

    1. Surprising that I get more sleep than Art. He can sleep quickly without any trouble but gets up several times a night. I usually get up only once. We like to compare who got better sleep and better percentages. LOL

  7. I have an ancient Charge 2 and love it. I buy the cheap bands in packs of three and try to remember to charge it. If I'm at risk of falling, I may switch to an Apple Watch--but right am am fine with my cheap FitBit. I think it was a bit over $100 many years ago.

  8. P.S. The Fitbit Charge 2 came out in 2016 so mine is probably about 10 years old!

  9. When electronics go wrong. We have been suffering too. We had brand new state, as they say, of the art smoke detectors installed this spring. Yesterday they both started to scream. There was no reason! We checked everything we could possibly imagine, but no luck. Changed the batteries. They started to scream again, this time in tandem. JG has now, wobbling around on ladders, uninstalled them and they are on their way back to the vendor.
I wish I thought that you could do that with a Fitbit. But it is very interesting to learn a bit (if not a fit) about them.

    1. I don't know if this is your situation but, in my case, I had ancient, expired smoke detectors (hard-wired) replaced with the sealed 10-year ones. They started screaming too and I got a couple of replacements. However, in the small print somewhere, the sealed ones warn that they can't be put over prior existing electrical *stuff* which is of course where we had to put them. That's where the hole in the ceiling is! Very frustrating. This may not pertain to you, but it reminded me of my smoke detector problem. Good luck!

  11. I wonder how my Apple watch tracks my sleep. One night I just could not get to sleep and kept looking at the time as it crept past midnight, 1:00 am, 2:00 am, almost 3:00 am, and then I finally did sleep - and woke up tired at 7:00 am. That meant 4 hours of sleep. MyApple watch showed that had 5 hours of core sleep, short bouts of awake, and a few times of deep sleep and REM totally 8 hours. Since then, I don't really believe the technology.

  12. I guess that

I guess that Bit is unFit.
I just have a dial Timex watch and an iPhone. That's enough.

  13. Unfortunately I have no experience in those devices. I don't do good with regular watches as they break on me for some reason so I never was interested in getting one of those out of fear of destroying it

  14. I use a Garmin thing that is like a Fit Bit. I used to look at the sleep/wake stuff and now I ignore it. I know when I am tired and don't get a good night's sleep. But I go to bed when I am tired and get up when I awake. If I am grumpy, I probably didn't get good rest. But I like the way my little watch tracks how far I hike and shows me a map of it when I specify a hike.

  15. Tracking sleep is sort of addictive I think. It’s my favorite part of my Apple Watch. I like the exercise rings too. I like being able to answer a short message. My sister has a Samsung watch. Hers is big too. I’m pretty fat so the big isn’t to bad for me.

How much weight have you lost. You were small before?

  16. I find it infuriating how quickly electronics, expensive electronic devices, are obsolete.

  17. I have a $60 watch that I use for nothing more than time and tracking my steps. It has lasted me for a couple years now. I can't remember the brand. I will never be a techy.

Spade and Co., I think it is.

  18. Kay, I have an Amazfit (which looks a lot like a fitbit - and probably works the same). My son gave it to me years ago and it still works fine. I have bought other bands for it (12 for $9.99 on Amazon - all colors). But basically it does all those things like steps, sleep, oxygen, heart rate, etc. I only use it for steps and sleep. It cost about $35. I even bought a second one when they were on sale for when this one dies... if it ever does.
