Waste Not, Want Not... I Think

I've mentioned before how Art just hates to waste things, just hates throwing away things that might be usable. Unfortunately, he'll even put little packages of ketchup or soy sauce that are put in carry-out food bags into the refrigerator where they can stay forever.

Well... I decided to just pour them into a bottle so it will have more chance of being used.

Uh oh... I need a bigger bottle.

But the ketchup packages. Hmmm....🤔

  1. My husband was the same way. Although I have so many pieces of metal and parts of things stored in the shed which include machine parts and wood parts. I tell the neighbors if they need a tool or something to repair something to please come hunting to our shed for pieces and parts. It looks like a grungy unorganized hardware store.
I had to chuckle at never wasting a thing! I get it!

  3. Good idea, Kay.
My house and garage are full of 'might be useful one day' items. Grrr!

  4. I hope it isn't Heinz ketchup packages. If so, you'll be waiting forever in "anticipation" for them to drip into a bottle.

  5. Sue is a bit like that. Maybe there is one in most couples?

  6. I do the same, Kay. Have a Tuperware container in the frig that is full of little ketshup and horsey sauce packets that will be thrown out eventually.

  7. I rarely go anywhere that has those little packets so I don't have to worry about it. However, I have found ancient ones in my refrigerator--pushed to the back. They're probably at least a decade old!

  8. My apartment complex has a big bowl of packets in the dining hall. Some must be two years old. I'm not using those. I save about 5 of the red sweet chili sauce packets at a time from my favorite Chinese restaurant. I buy bottles of low-sodium soy sauce for recipes. Linda in Kansas

  9. I confess that used to be me. I had a basket in the frig full of packets. I had to have a stern talk with myself. If they aren't used in a week, they are out of here!

  10. I also did that with all those shoyu packets that I get but I found the combined soy sauce in the bottle was rather thick and strong. I do like the shoyu from Japan - less dense and subtle - but very expensive.

  11. Not many small packets here ... good idea to transfer them into a bottle though.

    All the best Jan

  12. Not any packets here, since we have very little take out food. Maybe the answer is to request only what you will use when you get take out food.

  13. Nope. That's one accumulation we have avoided. I wonder if the soy sauce is as good as what you get bottled? I can imagine that the consistency might need to be thicker to be in one of those little packages.

  15. I guess in thinking about it, we rarely get food to bring home. No little packets here.

  16. I know what you are going through!! Our garage is full of wood working wood... the basement has electronic stuff like ham radio gear etc ... the attic has Lionel trains , cardboard boxes and Bob's Mother's genealogy paperwork. I truly believe that when a spot empties out... more stuff rushes to fill it!!

  17. i always save those little packets that come with takeout food. i enjoy having them at the ready in case a later order leaves them out. i also use them for picnics. i hold onto mustard, ketchup and mayo!!

  18. I do like Art. Who knows why. They stay in the refrig until I eventually throw them away. If I think of it, I ask for no catsup. I don’t like it so why why save it?Galla Creek

  19. The little packages are a dern nuisance. But I am a mad saver of the tail end of most other things. I upend bottles onto the new bottle to get the last drop. Drives my poor spouse crazy, as he tries to work around one.
