Sky Watch Friday: Waimea Canyon

I'll bet you didn't know we had a pretty grand canyon in Hawaii, too. This is Waimea Canyon on the island of Kauai and that's my son-in-law. He, my daughter and granddaughter are visiting because Ed had a computer job on Kauai. I'm amazed they found and hired him (in Chicago) all the way from over here. This photo was actually taken by Ed. He just self timed it and stood on the railing to get this shot.

  6. We've been to Waimea Canyon on Kauai two or three times, Kay, and it really is this beautiful, isn't it? To me, though, the grand finale of the trip up to the canyon and beyond is the spectacular view down along the Na Pali. I love that view!

  8. We loved Waimea Canyon when we visited. Just one of our favorite spots in Kauai...which, I think, is my favorite of the Islands. It's a tough choice to make, though.

  17. I left a message here earlier, but Blogger was bogged down and I lost it. This is a fabulous picture.

I have been there once, and I have tickets to come again in December. It is unusual (isn't it?) to have such a view free of fog and/or rain.

  22. Hi Kay, this is a nice Skywatch picture of the sky but also of the canyon. The word Waimea must have a Hawaiian meaning, we stayed for a while at Waimea and it was in Maui.
Thank you for peeking at my clouds from the sky, yes we spend more time in the airport nowadays than we do in the air. I hope you don't have to spend that much time waiting for your island hops, I remember it was 'walkon' and often.
    Happpy Skywatching,

  26. Hi, Kay. JUst checking in to catch up before we're off again.
When my husband and I visited Waimea Canyon many years ago, the sky was in the canyon. As we looked over the clif it was into a wall of fog. Very disappointing.
    It is grand.
