It's Haircut Day today! First, I cut my mother's hair under our covered patio. That was quick since her hair has thinned out a bit. Then it was Art's turn on my stool. He didn't necessarily enjoy my taking a photo of him but for the sake of my blog, acquiesced. Suuuuch a nice guy! He may have decided to reduce my tip at that point, however.
This is the BEFORE picture. He's got a lot of thick, coarse and curly hair that gets rather unruly when it's too long. It took me quite a bit longer to get done with his head.
The wind started blowing and rain started falling but I kept right at it until I was done even though I got hair sticking all over my clothes.
Here's the AFTER shot.
After finishing his head I went to the bathroom where I have a tri-fold mirror and cut my own hair. I wonder how much money I saved. Do you think it's enough for a dinner out? OK...Lunch?

ReplyDeletegood for you, you saved tons of money-enough to go shopping-it's less fattening than food. I used to cut my son's hair and it was thick and curly like your husband's but when he became a teenager I couldn't get near him with my clippers. My husband cuts his own hair with a mirror and it saves a ton of money-enough for me to go to the hair salon and get mine done...

How brave and trusting Art must be! And what co-ordination you must have to cut your own using a mirror, I could never get the scissors in the right place. I used to cut the boys' hair when they were little, but that's the extent of my barbering.

Gigi: To be perfectly honest, I did sort of goof with Tif's hair when she was in 5th grade. She won't let me come near her hair anymore.
Dina: Art says thank you for the compliment. You've made his day! And certainly, come on over, I'll cut your hair anytime. Only problem is, I only do one style. I should have taken a photo of all three of us. You'd see that we have rather identical haircuts.

ReplyDeleteBut I'm so impressed that you not only cut hair, you can cut your own? My hair's long simply because I'm too cheap to get a haircut, and completely unable to cut it properly myself. Once in a while I cut a straight line across the bottom to keep the ends neat, and that's it.
YES, everyone should take you to dinner (or lunch!) to celebrate the savings!
Nice job. I would NEVER tackle that, especially on my perfectionist The Hubby. In fact, mine has decided to go from a military cut (never in the service) to letting it grow till August! I'm in love again. I'm a hippy at heart.
ReplyDeleteYou gave Art a great cut, Kay. I've been cutting Ken's hair for years, too. I use the hit-or-miss method: a little off here, not so much there, until it looks sorta right.
ReplyDeleteSusan: I had so many bad cuts that I decided one day to just go ahead and do it on my own. Art checks my back just to make sure the bottom edges are OK.

ReplyDeleteWow Kay good on you and a great job too. My mother has been cutting my father's hair for 30 years. She doesnt do her own though. Good on Art - you both look so young and havent aged at all. Whatever you are doing clearly works. More people should try cutting their hair. And definitely you saved enough for lunch and dinner. I paid $290 to get my hair cut and coloured this week. I just about fell on the floor. Hairdresers have had their business affected and their prices have skyrocketed. It would be cheaper for me to fly over to you and give you something for cutting it, lol!!! Have a great week Kay.
ReplyDeleteNice job on Art's do! Isn't it awkward cutting your own hair in the back? I can't even work with the mirror because it's backwards! This is a great way to save some money, although the barbers aren't too happy about it, I'm sure!

Wow-I am very impressed! You did a great job on Art (what a nice man to allow photos for all to see!) and I admire you for doing all three haircuts. I would never dare attempt such a thing, I can barely trim my bangs. Definitely go out to lunch and/or dinner-you certainly earned it with what you saved on haircuts. I just am in awe that you cut your own!
