I can put weight on my foot when there's no pain -- there is
It will take 8 weeks to heal -- 4 months before there's no pain
I might be able to do line dancing...some day -- he'll tell me when, a month from now.

We found it interesting to see where the break had occurred. Dr. Chen said I should stop kicking my husband around. I told him it was the chair's fault.
"Unh hunh..." he replied, "Suuuure..."

They sent us down to the foot brace department where Sonny fitted me with a fracture boot. Dr. Chen had offered the boot OR a cast. I jumped at the boot. Wearing a cast in the hot Hawaiian summer weather would have been NO fun at all. Art asked Sonny if he had the boot in pink. That's my hubby, always looking out for me.
Sonny was fabulous teaching us how to strap the boot, clean and maintain it. I loved Dr. Chen's knowledgeable expertise.
Somebody said Tripler Army Hospital had the unfortunate nickname of being called Crippler because of a rather unfortunate and tragic error. It reminded me of an episode on House where he used a permanent marker to write on his leg before surgery "Not this leg." On the other leg he wrote, "Not this one either."
Whatever the case, I'm very pleased with my care at Tripler. Everybody has been so nice, friendly and helpful.
Do hope you are adjusting well to the boot. Ashton had one similar to yours and it was very light and easy for her to "operate" all the straps, etc. I do hope the pain is gone. Take care and rest up! And watch up all you line-dancers out there, Kay will be back soon!!
ReplyDeleteHaving a boot sounds so much better than a cast. Yeegads, that "Crippler" nickname sends the imagination soaring!!! Hope you are feeling a little better day by day.
ReplyDeletemy daughter had a boot instead of a cast, too. She removed it at bedtime. Her ankle did not heal properly and still hurts. Somehow, I think a cast would have been better.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's best that you didn't choose to have a cast. When I was at the hospital having the cast on my armed changed, there was a woman just coming out after having her leg cast removed. The hair on that leg had grown thick and long.
ReplyDeleteShe was laughing about it, but it really looked gross. Don't think her pink ladies' razor would do the job on that one.
P.S. I wore my arm cast all the way through our vacation trip through Newfoundland - at least I could walk.
ReplyDeleteHow I broke the arm? fell off my bike - duh
Having the boot is so much better than a cast and crutches. When I broke my foot in 8 places I had a boot and it worked out really well. Walking was a breeze! Get well soon or I should say healed soon!
ReplyDeleteGlad you in the boot now. Got to not be fun and I know all to well. I've been there many, many years ago. Hmmm, don't think I blogged about that, may have to.
ReplyDeleteglad you had a good experience with the hospital finally...no pink boot-darn but that would have drawn attention to your foot. looks like you are progressing and having yet another lesson in patience...
ReplyDeleteYikes. I hope your foot surprises the doctors in good ways, and that it heals faster than you expect. Good luck with the boot--I agree it's a much better choice than a cast!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you can make even a disaster feel like an adventure instead! Good luck with it all.
Four months of pain?! Oi, poor Kay.
ReplyDeleteSo when the kids come to visit in July they can wait on you hand and FOOT?
Did they give you a copy of your X-rays on a CD? Cool.
As a child I dreamed of having a broken arm or leg, anything, really, so I could get some sympathy and attention. My sister broke her arm, and it earned her all kinds of attention. Now, though, I think I'd pass if given the chance for a broken limb! It doesn't look to be at all fun, although that boot of yours is downright snazzy. I'm sure you're handling this setback with grace and humor. Really, what else can you do?
ReplyDeleteI broke my foot about 10 years ago and I can appreciate what you're going through, Keep that positive attitude and you'll heal faster.
ReplyDeleteThose boots are brilliant, so comfortable and solid, yet light too. I've still got mine, and used it when I sprained my ankle a few weeks ago. You'll find it very easy to walk on too.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, the boots are MUCH better! So glad all is going as well as could be expected and that you're getting such great care!
ReplyDeleteKay;
ReplyDeleteI have had both, a cast and a boot! Boot wins hands down...I am so happy for you, maybe it will even heal faster in the boot!
That is quite a long recovery and having to live with the pain. I will hope that it's shorter and less pain for you Kay..
ReplyDeleteI'm catching up. I'm glad to hear that your second trip was better than your first one!
ReplyDeleteFour months is a long time. I hope they're wrong.
Blessings, just a short visit. Sorry you broke your foot. Please take care and have a smooth healing process.
ReplyDeleteStay blessed.
No, that boot's not made for dancing. That will come later, much later. Then again, maybe not too long. You're not ancient yet so it will heal faster if you follow doctor's advice (I've been there too).
ReplyDeleteThis experience seems to be much better than the previous one, thank goodness for that.
Keep improving, I'll keep you in my prayers.
