We've been looking everywhere for a light gray METAL 2 drawer file cabinet for Art's office ever since we had to take our good deal termite inhabited Craig's List wooden file cabinet to the dump. Everybody is out of them. (gray file cabinets NOT termites. Termites we've all got lots of them.) We've checked Office Depot, Office Max and a couple of other office furniture type places. Not only do they not have them but they're expensive! Yes... yes... I understand the shipping cost and all, but sheesh! $250 for a 2 drawer legal file cabinet? Puuuhlease! Both Office Max and Depot advertised sales in the Sunday paper on the file cabinets but when I called they said they didn't have the light gray in stock. My brother tells me light gray is now the out color and that putty is in. Sigh. But we want the gray. I don't know why, but we just prefer the gray. They didn't have it last week either.
Office Max told me that the Hon cabinet would be $163 (the SALE price!). I told her it was listed as $109 on the Office Max website. She said it was because of shipping. Made sense... I guess.
HOWEVER... I decided to try out the site anyway. I put the cabinet in my cart and started to check out just to see what the shipping cost would be. Surprise! It said FREE SHIPPING. Riiiight! I've been fooled by that before. After you hopefully put in your address, a warning will come out that it's free shipping only in the contiguous U.S.. NOT applicable for Alaska or Hawaii.
Instead, when I put our address in, it said that shipping would take 6-8 weeks for Alaska and Hawaii. I was still holding my breath looking at the shipping order and waiting for the added cost. Then it appeared! $5.18 for TAX. Hmmmm? And shipping still says FREE.
I click the ORDER button and off it goes. Can it be? We're actually buying the Hon, light gray, legal, 2 drawer file cabinet for $115.17? Free shipping? This is a first!
I wonder if I should have gotten the putty... or maybe the black instead... I wonder how light that gray is... I wonder if it'll be dented when we get it... Will it be the right size?... ARRGHHHHH! I hate buying things on-line.
Well, that's one more decision made and off your mind. Enjoy it when it comes, hopefully in good shape.
ReplyDeleteGlad that you found a cheaper file cabinet online..and it's FREE shipping! How cool can you get. Yay! I am sure they will package it well and it won't have a dent. Which reminds me, I need to sort out mine too. (teehee) Good luck, Kay! :)
ReplyDeleteDecisions, decisions! Always a pain in the -- well, you know what I mean. Hopefully, it will be just what you need and at the right cost!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Sylvia
order the color they have in stock and spray paint the suchah battleship gray already. Joking. I don't believe anybody understands shipping costs to the islands. Eventually we'll get better with more practice, I guess.
ReplyDeleteGotta love free shipping! And sometimes I think things cost more in Hawaii just because they can!
ReplyDeleteKay, 5 weeks, or whatever it was, is far too long to stew over your choice! Forget about it, and then hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised when it arrives.
ReplyDeleteI'm sitting here looking at our two drawer legal size file cabinets and I can't tell if they are gray or putty. They're old, so they might be gray. Which means they're OUT OF FASHION! Oh no! Who decides such things??!!
Of course it's the middle of the night and I can't sleep - AGAIN - so you might just want to ignore me.
what happened to Craigs List? I have file cabinets coming our of my ears and have decided it's time to empty them so others don't have to sort or dump what 's in them after I'm gone. Hope you get your file cabinet okay.
ReplyDeletei still prefer to hunt for the real furniture than looking at pictures.
ReplyDeleteI would look at this as an "adventure"! I do hope you are thrilled to pieces with the new cabinet :)
ReplyDeleteI love online shopping for a lot of things. My problem is having the patience to wait for it to arrive.
ReplyDeleteI've been to the Dead Sea. Before reading about your picture I guessed you were there. I didn't like that oily coating on your skin once you were out of the water. It's an interesting place.
Maybe you could try overstocked.com, my son has used this before and likes it, however I have not and do not know anything about them, so good luck, hope you find the color you want. Take care and have a nice week.
ReplyDeleteI hope it comes and it will all be perfect :)
ReplyDeletelove your header photo, floating in the dead sea, wow, lucky you.
ReplyDeleteOnline seems to be the way to go these days...depending on the shipping cost. Good luck, yes good metal file cabinets aren't cheap.
We think you'll be very happy with grey, and we're 100% certain that you will LOVE your HON file cabinet. In case you want to see all of the colors we offer please visit http://www.hon.com/SurfaceMaterials/Finishes/Core-Paints.aspx
ReplyDeleteHappy filing!
Your friends at The HON Company
Congratulations! I hope it's a good one. Every wooden one we've had has fallen apart, but the metal ones take all kinds of abuse. Definitely the way to go!
ReplyDeleteDina: That's true! We just need that bedroom furniture still. Our mattress is on the floor. It may stay there for the next 10 years.
ReplyDeleteTes: We've had things shipped to us in Hawaii from different companies and they came damaged. You never know what to expect.
Sylvia: So true. We really have just the bedroom furniture to get and we'll be set for the next 20 years... or did I mean 20 days?
Ron: Battleship Gray? We had a friend (male) who invited a whole bunch of us to come and help him paint his apartment Battleship Gray. Halfway through, somebody had to be sent out to buy a different color. LOL
Quilly: I'm thinking that, too. They have us over a barrel... or the Pacific anyway.
Linda: I went to the HON website and darn if that putty didn't look too bad. LOL again.
Lin: From now on I'm just getting metal, non-termite stuff on Craig's List.
Wenn: You know... It is safer that way.
Cheryl: Oh, me too, Cheryl! Me, too!
Linda: Isn't it amazing how you really DO float? That blew me away. However, you had to be really careful not to get the water in your eyes.
Margaret Cloud: I've tried Overstock before, Margarent and they didn't ship to Hawaii. I had to have them send it to our daughter in Illinois who in turn mailed it to us.
Denise: I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed.
Christine: I guess everything is going up these days. The Dead Sea was truly incredible. Art tried the Dead Sea mud, too.
HON: Oh MY Goodness! I can't believe you guys actually wrote to me. Thank you for caring! Wow! Now I'm really looking forward to seeing this filing cabinet. One thing for sure, it won't have termites. And darn if I don't like the look of your putty also now.
Susan: I do believe this will work. Art can hardly wait. All his files are sitting on the bed right now.
Hope you like it when it finally arrives! good luck.
ReplyDeleteBuying on-line is wonderful, except when it's not! I did a lot of shopping for xmas on-line this year and only had to return two things. Silly me I bought shoes and slippers and they didn't fit!
ReplyDeleteThis made me smile. For many years we used a light grey, two drawer filing cabinet that was thrown out by my school, but we desperately wanted a wooden one, but just couldn't justify the cost. Eventually my mother got rid of her wooden one, which is what we now use. Thankfully we don't have termites here!
ReplyDeleteI hope it comes in OK. I always see that things either cost more or can't be shipped at all to Hawaii.. I guess you got a good deal on this...
