Mom has been coming out of her side of the house every morning after I whip up her morning mocha saying, "The weather forecast said it would be sunny today so I can do the laundry." She loves to do one load of laundry everyday, either by hand or machine and hang it out to dry in the sunshine.
The last few days, we've looked out the window as she said that and seen rain falling. Guy Hagi, my favorite weather guy says we're in the midst of a drought.
However, we live on the side of a hill so whatever Guy says rarely applies to us. They say all the islands have micro-climates. I believe it!
I looked out our windows this morning and this is what I saw.

Looking EAST toward Honolulu

Looking SOUTHWEST toward Waianae

Looking SOUTH toward Pearl Harbor

Looking NORTH toward the Koolau mountain range

Looking WEST toward the rainbow...
So this is what the skies in my world look like this Friday. In 20 minutes the skies will totally change. If you go to Waikiki right now, it's probably cloudless and sunny... perfect for tourists and my mother's laundry.
However, I just heard my mother saying she's going to use the dryer. The weather is making her crazy!
POSTSCRIPT: This evening I looked out our front door and saw this.
I always use the electric clothes dryer, and add a Bounce sheet to soften the laundry and reduce static cling.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a line to hang clothes outdoors.
I just prefer the dryer.
It's been raining here in Arkansas the past few days, too, and more is on the way. Yuck! I'm with your Mom.
ReplyDeletewell, rain's good if you've been having a drought I guess.
ReplyDeleteOh I wish you could send some of that rain our way, our gardens are in sore need of a real downpour. We're much the same here in the Mendip Hills as you are, the weather forecast is rarely accurate for us as we have our own microclimate here.
ReplyDeleteThat is cute about your mom. I didn't see a lot of sun in those pictures.
ReplyDeleteI love hanging things out to dry!!! The smell of bedsheets dried in the sun is heavenly!!! Then again, towels dried in the sun are scratchy -- yuck. I used to always hang laundry out in the summer -- and I discovered that I saved some money in the process!!!
ReplyDeleteIt has finally stopped raining here! We have had 4 gorgeous days in a row! It's amazing.
ReplyDeleteCan't have rainbows without rain, so I guess Mom is right!
ReplyDeleteHaving grown up with clothes dried on a clothes line out of necessity, I have no desire to revert back to that now.
We've had a mini heat wave the last three days, with temps reaching above 90. Cooling starts tomorrow, with maybe some light rain next week. Most of us here in Seattle will be glad to get back to cooler weather. We just don't want the rain to get started and not stop.
there's even a sub-micro weather system in Waikiki, itself, where this side of the road is always wet and the other side is always dry .... during a light-medium drench.
ReplyDeleteWow, look at those clouds, round about you! And a great rainbow.
ReplyDeleteWish we had even one cloud. Israel won't see rain until about October. And this week more days of heat wave.
I don't even have a dryer. That would drive your mom nuts, no?
Drying clothes outside is wonderful - they smell and feel so fresh! I hope the sun shines soon for your mother and her laundry. I always imagined Hawaii being sunny all year round.
ReplyDeleteA micro-climate..that is interesting.. beautiful rainbow...
ReplyDelete..perfect for tourists and my mother's laundry. this made me laugh. the weather has gone crazy everywhere it seems - no global warming - I am not convinced.
