I had nothing to really post about today so I checked out what I had been scanning from our family album. This photo is from January 14, 1979. That's Tiffany and her friend, Mary. I took this photo looking out from our doorway into our front yard. Tif was three and a half then. Jon was about 4 months old.When we first moved to Chicago, everybody talked about the snow of 196something. Well, in 1979 we got 40.4" of snow that January. That was pretty darn amazing! It was agony to keep shoveling a pathway out of our house.
The worst thing about shoveling was just when you got it all cleared, the city show shoveling truck would come barreling by and pile up snow right over where you'd just shoveled. That snow would be packed, heavy and twice as hard to carry.
Still, now that I'm in Hawaii, memories of the magic and agony of snow are fondly remembered. So what's making me think of snow when I'm barely out of August? It must be the thought of that Alaskan cruise we're contemplating perhaps.
For my friends and relatives in Hawaii, I hope this post helps you cool off.
I remember the snow of 1949 in Utah where cattle starved and many were stuck in their homes. We moved to California the next year! lol!

Nice pics, Kay. I lived in New York City for 5-1/2 years and, believe me, I do not miss the snow -- or the freezing cold. Hawaii no ka oi...

It's hard to remember the cold when the sun is shining brightly and warmly. Lovely pictures! It's great fun looking back at old photos and enjoying the memories they evoke.
ReplyDeleteI just got some snow pictures out and looked at them and passed my hand over them in a circle trying to reduce the number of feet of snow we might get this winter. Some say and the wooly worm says it will be cold and icy and lots of snow.

WOW that sure is alot of snow!!! Maybe if I look at the snow long enough it will get cooler here in NC-LOL!!!

Fun photos, Kay! And they did remind me of our many years in Montana! One year the snow piled up so high that when we went out to feed our horses we found them on the roof of their barn! Amazing! Have a great week!

Maybe it is the change of months. As soon as September hits I think about fall and the holidays. I remember fall in NY and miss it so much I get depressed. Then fall comes down here in November and I remember how much I don't like the cold!!
